Polish road collision leaves 17 dead

Some 17 people died in a head-on collision in central Poland today when a passenger van hit a lorry, after swerving into the opposite lane in thick morning fog.

"We have an information that 16 people died at the site of the crash, and two other were transported to a hospital, where one more person died," a police spokeswoman said.

"All we know so far is that a van pulled over the opposite lane and had a head-on crash with a Volvo (lorry)."

She said it was too early to discuss the cause of the accident, which took place near Nowe Miasto nad Pilica, 80 kilometres south of Warsaw.

Poland's interior minister Jerzy Miller was heading to the site of the accident, the ministry said in a statement.

because that van looks too small, very different from the other pic... which is more of a bus

Yes it was a normal van (vw transporter). It didn't have license to carry people! 14 men and 4 women died. 18 workers. they were going to apple orchard
