Struggling to make friends (St. Pats)

I know its only 2 weeks into my course but I'm already hating college because I haven't made many friends. The friends I have made are all B.EDs, which is annoying bercause they have different hours than i do so some of the time I am trying to kill time between lectures by sitting in the library. I have spoken to a lot of people but because there are 2 B.EDs for every B.A its hard to make friends because we are outnumbered! Even today, I was out with the SVP society in DCU and there was Pats student there, 1st yr B.ED. I spent most of my free time in DCU now, where I do seem to have friends and I have joined a few clubs & socs there, I particularly enjoy the archery. I have been told that I'll make friends though seminars and Pats clubs & socs but I'm not feeling positive. Anyone got any advice? Its soooo annoying to see that my B.ED friends seem to know every one!

    Hey Cream Crackers

I'm a DCU student but my friend is in the exact same boat. She is spending most of her time here in DCU yet she is doing a BA in Pats. Your clubs and socs day is coming up on the 13th so hopefully you can join some of them and make friends in Pats, I'll prob pop down cuz there are a few on offer in Pats that aren't avail in DCU. each college has its perks. If by the end of year you still are not happy perhaps look at doing a transfer to a different college and maybe that will make the difference

Who is your friend if you don't mind me asking? Maybe we should hang out.. kinda clutching at straws as you can see!

I have just left pats so know what you are talking about. When I went it felt like everyone was involved in their own little groups and nobody was bothered making new friends after two weeks. Especially if they are all living away from home and depending on each other. To be honest the friends I had in first year did not remain my friends in my final year. I am friends with past B. eds but only got to know them in third year.

It is true that you do make friends eventually through seminars but also through the weekly pats nights out that the entertainment officers organise. Even if they are not really your scene go to a few to initially meet people and then branch out. Two weeks is a really short time so relax!

I see you're from Dundalk. I have a twin brother in first year in Pats doing the BA, from Dundalk also!

I go to UCD and it's not that easy to make friends here either. The place is massive so you'll be talking to someone, and never see them again for ages. Don't get me wrong, everyone is really friendly at all, but a lot of the time it never progresses past the random conversation stage. I find myself hanging around with the people I came to college with, from secondary school, which isn't a great idea to be honest.

Your brothers there? I don't think I've come across any guys from Dundalk. I'm still in random conversation stage with the B.As. I do have mates who are B.EDs but because of dif timetables I have breaks when they don't and have much less hours so to fill the time I head up to DCU. Defo not a good idea!

Ah don't worry it's early days yet, you definitely will make friends! Especially from seminars and small groups and that!

I know three people from Dundalk doing the BA there, my brother and two girls from my school. I'm not sure what the girls are doing, but my brother is doing Irish, History and Maths, or possibly Irish, Geography and Maths I'm not sure which - definitely Irish and Maths anyway!
