The bulk of seafood specialist restaurants are in Howth, a short dart trip away. The Oarhouse is the best value, a bit rough and ready, but great fresh fish. There are not many specific fish restaurants in town, but... they all serve fish. Very rare you wouldn't see fish on a Dublin city restaurant these days.

So, given that, all the good places serve fish, you need to choose one. What night are you going out? The early birds are great value, but some of them don't happen on Fridays or Saturdays.

I have heard great things about Hemingways in Clontarf, you have to book it though as they can only do about 20 covers at a time.

I love FXB on Crow Street, Temple Bar. Mainly steak but with lots of seafood and the food is consistently great. Nice buzz there too at the weekend and very central. I'd really recommend the calamari or the garlic prawns for starters.

Haven't been myself but know several people who have and the reviews weren't good.

Was there a few months ago and was delicious. Then last week was in town and popped in at 5pm. They said they were fully booked but if we could eat and finsih by 6pm theyd squeeze us in. I had the slow roast pork and GF had the peanut curry. Absolutely delicious. The place was ful at 6pm and we just finihsed out desserts on time, we were paying and seen the waitress seating the people who booked out table :p Its so nice I just rang up when I originally posted about it tonight an made a reservation for tomorrow. The pork was the nicest thing Ive tasted in a long time :D

I used to like that place but have gone off it now. I was there recently with friends and we thought the food is not as good as it was, in our opinion. I suppose chefs change. Still is ok though.

How recent was "recently"? I haven't been in about two months so I hope it hasn't gone downhill.

I have noticed in the past year or more they have changed the menu slightly and I definitely preferred the old menu but the new one is much cheaper so that makes up for it, for me anyway.
