Samsung LCD - Screen goes black but sound OK !

Just wondering if any LCD owners have experienced anything similar. Basically, the TV ( almost 3 yrs old - LE40R37BD i think ) works fine for a time and then the screen goes black: no fade, just immediate black - similar to a power of but sound remains . Probably an inverter problem...

If you are comfortable with dismantling it it will be the board that is attached to the plug/s for the backlight (usually white and pink wire) once you have the part number, if you are lucky you should be able to order replacement from ebay or elsewhere for about 50 euros...
