    Hiya all.

Got an issue and hoping someone can suggest best way forward.

Pensioner on a mountain overlooking dublin cannot get dsl. Wimax say they don't cover the area - Bohernabreena. So thinking about a dongle. Doing this on an iPhone and speedtest reports 120k dl so 3G is here. IPhone on vodafone but am unsure who else has coverage here.

What dongle or deal would be best suited for an OAP to send emails, surf a few times a week for a hour or two. Some packages are steep enough at a fiver a day.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks all.

All 4 operators charge €20 a month. Whichever has the best signal is the one you start with. Do a network search on the phone. 120kbps is fairly shitty, especially for 3G.

Interesting. She is next to a Vodafone base station. I did an iphone speed test again and got 350k DL and 65k UL.

This is ideal for an OAP who turns off her laptop because of frustration at the 4-5k download. I brought her laptop to my house where I have 5meg DL and spent ALL night doing updates!

All the operators should allow you to do a trial, 7-14 days to see if the item is working and the speeds are acceptable. Check them all out, the trial rules as well, and see which does the best for your use.
Just keep in mind the speeds will never be constant, up, down, on and off are to be expected.

120 kbps or kBps? Assuming its kbps that's poor alright. That wimax crowd probably simply don't have the address and their system seems extremely inflexible to deal with rural addresses. If you knew someone who had it, and you brought it to the location, you could try it out there.

A friend of mine recently got a fixed wireless connection out there from Ripplecom. Seems fairly happy. Might be an option
