Somebody runs a webapp service, and they have a section where they showcase some of their customers.

Is it fully legal for a competitor to go to their website, look at their showcased customers, and contact said customers trying to lure them to their own service?

if they post it online there's nothing to say you cant "target" your potential clients...or would it be considered spamming (unsolicited mail)

just because they show off their client list doesnt mean their clients can be poached - they could be perfectly happy or dedicated to their client and may not move.

    best of luck with it.

Thanks for the reply. And I know exactly what you mean, I'm not at all saying I'm thinking of doing this, it's just out of curiosity from a conversation we had today.

In my personal opinion I fail to see how that is any different to browsing through a brochure and getting references that way. If the list of showcased customers is publically available on the webapp service then "That's Business" and a perfectly legit way of drumming up trade as far as I'm concerned. It's a different story if the competitor had to break into a secure system to get the info.
