    Hi,

As the title suggests, I hooked up hdmi cable from ps3 to tv. The picture quality is great but there is no sound.

I tried changing the sound output but with no luck. Anyone have similiar problems with this?

ITs a pity it doesnt work cause the graphics are clear and gameplay is enjoyable, but with no sound its a pain.

Just to be clear mate, you did go into your PS3 settings, then sound setting and change audio to HDMI cable as opposed to scart or svideo?

    Thanks for replying,

Yes, but it wouldnt let me select that option? Perhaps I need to change another setting???

That's odd, so you have a perfect picture but no audio.

Ok from you xmb bar your going to sound settings, audio output settings, normally you get 3 options, HDMI, Optical Digital and Audio Input Connector / Scart / AV Multi...what options are you getting?

yeah they are the options I get. But when I select the HDMI option it says ""This HDMI device cannot be used for audio output"?

I tried using the scart cables (ie taking the yellow one out) and selecting the scart option but still no luck. Any ideas?

This is forever happening me, i bough three new cables and nothing, i reset the setting on my tv in the end and switched around the HDMI cable and it worked away again, its very frustrating having to use a scart on a HD tv :D

Have you tried switching the HDMI cable heads around.. Put the one currently connecting to the TV into the PS3 and vice versa.

Also check if you have another HDMI port on your TV. I use an optical output for the 5.1 system in my house so cant say I;ve experienced the same issues...

Where you get the HDMI cable?

Not near my PS3 at the moment but will try help ya out. Have you updated your PS3 to the latest firmware? What make/model tv you got?

From your xmb bar go to sound settings, audio output settings, HDMI.
Select manual. Tick all the options that are 2 channel only

ie. Linear PCM 2 ch.88.2kHz etc. Then click finish. Hopefully you have sound.

If not then check side/back of your tv and see if it has an audio input (red&white only). If so use bog standard PS3 cable and plug in red and white cable to audio in on tv.

From your xmb bar go to sound settings, audio output settings, AV multi and click finish. Hopefully that should work.

Yeah I have tried that. All that is happening is I'm getting great quality picture through the HD channel and the sound through the ordinary AV channel.

    Seriously disappointing this?
Has this ever happened to anyone?

I have that tv. On the tv press the "menu" button, then go down to "Features", then go down to "mode selection" and change that, i think the options are Hd or PC mode and pc mode doesn't have sound. Worth a try!!
I have 5.1 separate sound system for the ps3 but my sky hd box's sound works fine through the hdmi.
