Sad news today as the death of soprano, Dame Joan Sutherland has been announced. She was 83 and died at home in Switzerland after a long illness. Now there was a singer of real quality - no hype machine needed to make that lady a star.

Indeed - I only her sing once at the end of her career - in a series of farewell concerts she did - It was in the Glasgow Theatre Royal some time in the mid 1980s. Sat at the top of the Gods - the only tickets I could get. Even then at the end of her career she raised the roof. Total superstar.
