    Citywest € 1,100 - bit of a dump
Corballis € 750 - fine, but constantly full of visitors and a bit of a trek from the southside.
Corrstown € 1,492 - bit of a trek also and by all accounts it's got about 3 million members and a jammed time sheet most weekends
Dublin City € 1,250 - very average course
    Dublin Mountain € 499 - poor course
Elm Green € 850 - decent deal whereby you an play corballis also as part of your membership. short, rammed with visitors at peak times. always in decent nick, but would get fairly boring pretty quickly
    Hazel Grove € 600 -
Hollystown € 1,090 - similar to elmgreen really, but i'd personally pick elmgreen over it. others would disagree
Hollywood Lakes € 1,500 - nice course, but bit of a treck
Lucan € 1,600 - yep, good option for you
Roganstown € 1,439 - nice, but bit of a treck
Sillogue Park € 740 - i'd rule this one out straight away
Slade Valley € 1,465 - yeh, not a bad little course.
ST Margarets € 1,500 - for the same money you'd get a far better course at Roganstown which is another 10 mins further up the road.

Personally, if i was on the south side of town i'd have a good look at South County.

You also have Glencullen (beside Johnnie Foxes) @ €850.00 thereabouts and South County €1600.00

I believe Delgany is doing a 6 day membership for under a grand.

What's the maximum you're prepared to travel?

If you're southside and looking at places like Hollywood Lakes and Corbalis then it's probably worth looking south and west too at places like Druids Heath.

This map is pretty good at showing all the courses around Dublin (It's google so I can't be responsible for it's accuracy or it missing clubs!)

Dublin and surrounding area golf clubs

MisterSifter did a fair job of summing up the clubs on your list.

One you haven't got on the list is Tulfarris who are doing a deal from November this year until March 2012 for 1,000 euro. I'm thinking of joining there myself.

F*ckin hell, that's a hell of a deal! Full membership?? Just a bit far for me, but tempting all the same.

How does that work...you can only play saturday OR sunday I presume?

Full membership, you can use the course from November until end of February. You then become a member of the club. There is an additional 100 euro bar levy, I think it has to be payed in March. Agree it is a fantastic deal for such a good course which is why I'm thinking of joining even though it is a little bit of a drive.

I've never played Tulfarris. What's it like?

It's a fine course, built beside Blessington lakes. Water comes into play on quite a few of the holes. There are lots of old mature trees around which gives it a nice mature feel. Greens, fairways, bunkers and tee boxes were all very good the last time I played there. Style wise it reminded me a lot of Slieve Russell if you are familiar with there. You can play mid-week for 20 euro if you fancy trying it.

what's it like over the winter/summer months with drainage etc, open all year or do they have trouble with flooding given that it seems to be beside the lakes. Also considering joining given the deal at hand.

I played Tulfarris during the winter and the front 9 was flooded.

Would advise playing it in bad weather before making any decisions

Just noticed you have Elmgreen and Corbalis listed as separate but according to their website you get membership to both courses for €850

Yep, good deal. Note though that you only actually join one. You then get playing rights in the other in addition. Doesn't include competitions though - you can only play in club comps in whichever one you join.

Seems like a good deal alright to have the choice of two to play especially if you live in North Dublin because you wouldn't be too far from either.

Are they any use though? never played either.

I'd say both are an acquired taste really. Corballis is a fairly unique little links course - fairly short but with some cracking homes on it. It's always pretty busy. Most people's main gripe with it is that too man holes overlap. For the price though, i think it's good.

Elmgreen is also short enough, but a decent challenge off the back tees. A good few short par 4s, but a couple of longish par 3s. It's always in decent condition - good greens, very narrow fairways and tough rough. It could get pretty boring quickly depending on your level of golf, but for the average guy just wanting to play once a week it fits the bill. For 850 quid a year (the all in option) i think it's very good value. When you take into account that you can also play Corballis, even more so.

Blessington Lakes launched their 2011 rates recently. Looks like you can join from as little as €379 according to their website.

    http://blessingtonlakesgolfclub.com/membership/

The €379 option is a pay and play option but you can get in as a full member for€549 and your a member up until 2012.

Thanks, seems like a good deal. Never played the course so wonder if there are any members here and how they'd rate the place. Is it open all year or do they suffer from drainage problems during a wet winter/summer? Any practice facilities at the course like a practice range and chipping green?

I see by joining you'll become a member until Feb 2012. This is the case with Tulfarris also, do you know if these clubs have their financial year in Feb and therefore new members pay at first March?

Never played Tulfarris either but have read some good reviews, does anyone know if they have practice facilities like a range and chipping green at the course?

Tulfarris and Blessington Lakes are both of equal distance from me (40km from Dublin city centre so looking at options)
    Thanks

If your looking for value for money I'd definitely say Blessington Lakes. It has a putting/Chipping green but no range but the greens are excellent quality and the course holds up really well in the winter as it enjoys superb natural drainage. Very friendly club.

Tullfarris has a good layout but gets fairly wet over the winter because it is so close to the lake.

Tulfarris has a decent range, you hit and pick your own balls. There is a green with bunker as well for pitching, chipping and bunker practice. There is also a putting green next to the first tee. Re drainage 85k was spent on improving drainage this year so hopefully that will improve.

I haven't played Blessington Lakes so can make no comment on there. You should play both if you are considering them. There is an open weekend next weekend in Tulfarris if you fancy trying it.

Thanks Puttputt, think I'd prefer that type of range and other facilities sound good also. Drainage was a concern as I've heard it can be pretty wet in winter so hopefully that solves some of it. Plan on playing it in the coming weeks anyway to see what it's like.
