No, but you'll need to get an NCT. DOE will be easier passed than the NCT

Again, read the long running commercial tax thread on here which covers all of this. DOE centres have been told to test privately registered vans.

    Found this earlier:
    http://83.71.243.153/Documents/Vehicle%20Testing/CVTFAQ%20_Final_.pdf

"Motor tax is based on use whereas testing is based on the vehicle
    type.
Where the vehicle’s Certificate of Registration and Licensing
lists the J code as M1 and the J.1 code as A, the vehicle is a passenger
vehicle. The motor tax class, J.2 is not considered for testing
purposes. Passenger vehicles with driver’s seat plus up to eight
passenger seats are tested at an NCT centre"

    Q. I have brought my vehicle to the NCT and/or CVT and they have refused
to test it, what can I do?
    A. According to Statutory Instrument No 771 of 2004 European
Communities (Vehicle Testing) Regulations 2004, these regulations
    apply to:‐
    a. Vehicles used for the carriage of passengers with more than 8 seats,
    excluding the driver’s seat,
    b. Goods vehicles
    c. Goods trailers, and
    d. Ambulances
These vehicles must be tested at a VTN test centre.

The NCT carry out roadworthiness tests on vehicles with
accommodation for up to eight passengers including taxi and hackney
cabs covered by the Road Traffic (National Car Test) Regulations,
    1999 and subsequent amendments.

read the long thread linked on here and you'll see you are caught in a tough spot. You want to tax your van private but then you cant DOE it. The NCT doesnt cover goods vehicles so eirther way you have no test done. Either way you will have no test , its only a matter of time before an officious Gard or hardline Judge puts his foot down.
Truth is the regulations are a mess at the moment which I guess is intentional as they are trying to drive privately used goods vehicles off the road.

I think you'll find it unrelaxing to get your van privately taxed, NCTd and not to mention the Insurance companies attitude.
