    Hey Guys,

I'm hoping to take a week off work to pay a surprise visit to some friends I have in Poland in Janurary! I'm just wondering what it is likely to be like over there then?
I know it will be cold but will snow and ice make getting around difficult??
I'm planning on going to Gdansk, Sopot and Gdynia up in the north, I was there once before and loved it!!

Any advice would be very welcome!!

(mods I might post this in the Polish forum to if thats ok?)

Polish forum is for polish language only.

You'd be better off going South if you've been to the North before. You'd be able to catch Krakow, but most importantly Zakopane and the mountains in the village where you can go skiing, hiking. It's incredible at that time of year.

    Thanks for the reply,

I have friends in Gdynia right at the tip so I want to atleast spend a day or 2 there, and I'll only have a week and a fairly limited budget! Would it be doable to spend 2 days in Gdynia, get a train down south, spend 4 days there and get train back up to Gdansk to fly home?? I'm worried weather conditions will have me stuck in one place which is fine if I'm up around Gdansk, Sopot or Gdynia but if I get stuck down south I'm frigged!!

I take it you have been there before?? What parts? Did you enjoy it?

My other half is Polish, so we go over and back every 2 months or so. We spend most of our time in the middle and the south, so I don't have much experience of the North.

You could fly home from Katowice/Krakow just as easily as from Gdansk. But you'd be insane to miss out on Zakopane, it's one of my favourite places on Earth.

Like most places that are used to cold weather they cope with it quite well and travel isn't a problem in normal winter conditions but it's impossible to rule out unusually bad weather. While I was there flights from Copenhagen to Gdansk were canceled for 2 days just after Christmas. IIRC it was -20 and they couldn't keep the runways clear of snow/ice.

If you do go make sure to wrap up well.
