Drylining With Insulated Plasterboard - Need Advice

We have a cavity block house. We were going to insulate externally but I think it's too expensive. Before the grants were introduced, I was quoted €9,500 to insulate the house. After the grants were introduced, the same company wanted €14,500! (Anyone else have an experience like this?)

Anyway, I don't have the money to externally insulate, at present. I'm going to have the walls drylined with insulated plasterboard. I'm starting with my daughter's bedroom. The walls in our house are already drylined - just plasterboard on battens.

    1. Should I put the insulated plasterboard onto the existing plasterboard or should I remove the original stuff and start again?

When I tap on the hollow wall, I can clearly figure out where the battens are. But when I tap on other areas, there seems to be a much wider (5-6 inches) area that isn't hollow. Like plaster.........

    2. What might this be? And could whatever it is cause some other problem, e,g., trying to put plasterboard onto an uneven wall.

    3. And if I do remove the original plasterboard, should I use battens for the new plasterboard or should I use an adhesive to put it directly onto the cavity block wall?

    Thanks in advance.
