Excess for third party part of insurance.

According to my insurance Policy, my excess applies only to fire, theft and own car damage claims. There's not a single word in the policy that it also applies to third party claims.

But when I called their customer service, I was told it also applies to third party claims.

    My insurer is Allianz.

    Does anyone have any experience?

What is general practice about it within Irish insurers?

If the excess really applied to third party claims, would that work the way, that if I crash into someone (my fault) and destroy his car for say 2000euros, then he claims from my insurance policy that 2000euros, and my insurance policy takes 300euros off me, as that's my excess.
Is it that way it's working?

PS. I don't really believe it's like that, because otherwise it would be stated in the policy (i trust policy more then what I was told by customer service adviser).
But just wanted to make sure...

Legally they cannot impose an excess on third party claims. That applies to all insurance companies.
The excess only applies to comprehensive and fire/theft claims.

That's what I wanted to hear.
    Thanks ;)
