I added another link......famous for that song from the Blues Brothers. He was one of the really top notch American soul artists still alive and performing.

Usually sang from a chair in his performances as he was over weight. Looks like he got a heart attack on the plane.

He played Vicar Street a few years ago and it was reputed to have been an incredible gig. I was so p*ssed that I missed it. There was a video on Youtube a few years ago of him at an outdioors gig and he allowed scores of ladies to come up and give hime a kiss while he was singing from the chair. He gave them all a red rose. Legendry stuff.....and the video was removed due to some copyright crap.

    Who?

Edit: Ah, the guy who did knockoff copies of Salomon snowboards for Irish people. Ironic that he got the name wrong.

Looks like he was doing well to make 70.

For fans of The Wire, he sang the montage song at the end of Season Three called "Fast Train". Great song too.

    R.I.P

Aged 70. Too young to go.

    70 is a good run.

If you're about thirty stone it's a flippin' great run tbh.

I have never heard of this fellow either, I'm afraid.

I certainly was not taking the p*ss. Maybe my choice of words wasnt appropriate.
I was trying to say that I would have hoped he would have had a few years left especially as he was still performing, brought out an album etc, nothwithstanding his size which of course reduced his life expectancy.

    Soul singer.

If it were my wont to issue RIPs like confetti. I rather do so for him than some radio personality or boy band puppet, to be honest.

My father (a regular concert-goer) saw him live twice I think, and he always said he put on the best gigs he's ever been to. I never got the chance unfortunately.

For those that say they don't know him - he's the kind of singer that you'd probably know a few of his songs but not necessarily attach the name to them.
