Thinking about buying a refurbished MBPro...

    Hi all,

I'm considering investing in a MacBook Pro, as I've got around €1,000 saved to invest in a new laptop. I'm a Film student and want to take the leap to Mac for Video Editing etc.

I know this is the Mac forum, but having never owned a Mac, I thought I may as well ask, do you think it's worth it?

I'm also looking into buying a refurbished model. If anyone's bought refurbished before, any advice?

Yes, Macs are totally worth it, but I'll leave it to the switchers to explain why.

Re: refurbs - they are usually as good as new, but there are exceptions. Check it throughly and if you aren't happy, send it back and order another one. This is the potential inconvenience you risk in ordering a refurb, but considering the discount involved, it's a risk worth taking. However, most people report receiving a perfect machine.

Refurbished models have the same warranty as a new machine.

I'm the proud owner of an imac and a macbook pro from the apple refurbishment store. Only had a teeny tiny bit of trouble with the imac but its perfecct now. As the
previous poster said check it out thoroughly early on and return if your unhappy.

I'm typing this on a 13" MBP from the Refurb Store, and it is absolutely perfect. Instead of the advertised 250GB HD, there is a 320GB in it. €170 cheaper than the alternative. Identical one there now on the Store @ €979.

+1. Most refurbs are DOA macs that ended up with dealers after the factory quality control missed it(or end of line stuff left on shelves). Think of them as another extra step on that quality control. In many ways they're more tested than a standard off the shelf model. Apple are quite happy to give you the years warranty and the 3 year applecare on them. And given the savings involved? Unless you're a packaging junkie :D and get twitchy at the plain white box they come in? Otherwise, hell yea. TBH you would have to really give me a damn good reason not to go the refurb route.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

I think I have the same one as you! Same amount anyway. Mine is 2.4 Ghz, 4GB RAM. Runs a charm. Fully recommend the refurb route.
