Boiling Pot Lid in Polo 97

    Polo '97 1.4 developed a strange noise. Sounds like a lid popping up and down on a boiling pot. Occurs when accelerating then disappears. Any ideas?

    May be pinking/pinging/knocking; Google these. (presume it's a petrol engine)

    Yes it's a petrol engine alright. Just googled and lots of info there. I will have a read and see what are the solutions.
