I am travelling to San Diego next month.I am flying with Delta and transiting in Atlanta.

Do I clear US immigration here in Dublin?
Can I check my bags all the way to San Diego?
My transit time in Atlanta is 1 hr 55 mins....is that enough in case I need to re-check my bags and clear customs/immigration in Atlanta?

Flying Delta all the way to San Diego? Bags will be checked but you will have to collect them in ATL, walk thru Customs and hand them back to the Airline at the transfer desk. You should also get your onwards boarding cards in Dublin, provided the whole trip is with Delta.

IIRC there is still pre-clearance for the Atlanta flight in Dublin but in any case the above still applies.

Thanks....yes....Delta all the way to San Diego...assuming my flight to Atlanta is on time is 1 hr 55 mins enough time for me to collect my bags , go thro' customs , check my bags in again and get my connection to San Diego?

I had a connection home through Atlanta recently. I had an hour and a half and although I didn't have to collect baggage or clear customs (just had to go to the gate), I had loads of time. Trains connect the terminals to the gates and it is an easy enough airport to navigate.

Might be a good idea to check out the layout of the airport and the planned departure gate in advance.

I'd say you'll be fine, just don't daddle!!

It's only on inbound flights you need to pick up your bags and clear customs in.

You'll be grand, the transfer desk is located literally once you've gone thru customs. Atlanta is Delta's big hub and most of their international flights transit thru here so there will be many like you, it's fairly easy tbh.

Remember your bags are already tagged for San Diego at this point so once you go thru the customs channel you should see a transfer desk with baggage dudes hanging around, they take your bags and you are then free to hop on that terminal train to wherever your next flight is going from.

SuperStarHoney - this only applies to flights of international origin, coming home there is no need to collect bags and do the customs thing as you are already in the country ;)

One thing to remember when you pick up the bags and bring them to the transfer desk make sure you puty any duty free (liquids) into your cases other wise they will be taken off you when you go through screening. Wife found thid out the hard way.

I was just letting the OP know that an hour and half was loads of time for me personally without customs or bag check but thanks anyway for telling me something I already knew ;)!!
