Selling a guitar

I'm looking to sell a Les Paul Studio and a Washburn 7 String.

I put together really detailed descriptions of them with lots of photos and I put them both on Adverts.ie (keep it in the family and all that...).

I don't have them priced incorrectly, I don't think, but from my ads and others I've looked at Adverts only seems to be useful if you're looking for someone to offer you half the asking price or to offer you a swap for something even though you say "no swaps".

Is there anywhere else you'd think of putting the ads? Has anyone any experience of selling through donedeal.ie or Gumtree or anything?

It's a bad time to be selling stuff really. Lots of people are selling and not as many can afford to buy compared to a few years ago, so the prices are gone down a good bit. From what I've seen, adverts is probably the best but it gets so much traffic that an ad can get buried pretty quickly and the bumps are only something like every 2 weeks. There are a load of people trying to get trades and low balling people but you just have to decline them and wait it out for a genuine offer.
Also, I checked your ads and I think you have the 7 string overpriced. If you look at the previous ads for the same model they were going for around 200 or less even. I know that you could get that model for $99 new when they were blowing them out after they went out of production.

Cheers, I priced it based on what I paid/what I reckon it's worth to me. I'll have a look at the competition and reprice.

Were they really $99 at one point??

Dont know about your particular model, but I bought a Dime Stealth that was $1000+ and I payed 270 Euro inc. shipping/customs, when they stopped making them!

Also, Washburns just dont seem to hold value very well, which is unfortunate cos I love my auld Stealth! :D

I believe so off music123. Im not 100 % sure on the model though.

Nope, il edit this. That was a different model that looked very similar.

To be honest its a buyers market at the moment. As soon as this recession hit gear prices took a MAJOR tumble. Plus as said, washburns dont hold there value in particular(have no idea why, i think there fantastic guitars).

Jesus. I got random calls and texts at all hours, never sold anything, full of messers. (On gumtree that is)

Saying that, I have bought stuff off both, so they do work technically! :D

Whoops my bad if it was another model. I think it might have been the HH version, but the model name would be very similar.

It was a basic model, different woods and no floyd. Pickup combo was the same iirc.

Ebay is another possibility. They charge you a fee of course. A few euros. The first pic is free. Then they charge you about 10 percent of the sale price if you sell.
Its not bad, ive used it a few times and you reach a much larger number of people.
    Thats my 0.02e worth:)

edited: not directed at OP, just sellers in general from my experience.

i dont understand how people on adverts expect to get so much money for their guitars.

for example - market value of guitar is 1k, I dont see why people expect to get between 700-800 for it.

Or another guitar at market value of 500e is expected to be sold for 350-450.

Silly stuff. Also people getting insulted from offers is silly too.

A guitar that costs €1k and that hasn't changed spec in 10+ years shouldn't depreciate significantly if it's got a decent brand/reputation.

I'm pricing it at €700 min because that's what it's worth to me, I'll sell it for €700 or more, but will hang on to it if I can't get that. It's a great guitar.

I don't know how to price the 7-String, so I'm just chancing my arm. My bottom line for that one is €250, beyond that I wouldn't bother selling it.

I'm not offended by offers, but am frustrated by people who don't read the ad before replying.

    fair enough, my 2c.

i do find it annoying when people offer trades when it states no trades. more junk to read through on an ad.

Yeah, but sometimes interesting things get offered as trades that you mightn't have thought you might like/want. That said, if you really just want cash, constant trade offers are annoying. But many people, it seems, aren't selling purely for cash to pay the credit card this month and are actually wangling themselves towards some different gear...

It's not about depreciation, it's about what you can get, It's a buyers market, as they say.

It totally is. Which is really **** for those of us looking to upscale our rigs. ESPECIALLY when we've lost our jobs cause a certain "bank" had to go and close down.

Worst part is now I'm at a point where I really do know what I want from my gear and my current rig just isn't it.. I've tried listing the stuff all over the shop but to no avail.

I could sell it for feck all but where does that leave me in saving up the difference?! This recession'll be the death of me yet.. :(
