    Training for my first DCM
Ive developed a pain in my left knee (under kneecap) after my last LSR.
Its only there when I run,. not walk & it doesnt seem to be going away.
I intend to go to a physio early next week.
But my question is in relation to doing nothing and getting total rest during taper.
How much harm would this do?
If say I was to cycle or swim or use a cross trainer instead of run for the next
17 days. would it affect my running performance by much on the day?

Definitely get it professionally seen to. Best not to run on it until you've had it evaluated, so try to see a physio on Monday.

If it's not hurting to cycle/swim, then do this. However, if this is also giving any pain whatsoever, then just rest completely. Don't worry about fitness, you're not going to lose any at this stage.

If you do no running for 17days you will loose running fitness even if your cross training, go and see a physio and go on his or her advice. A good sports massage is maybe all you need and you will be back running.

    Thanks for the replies fellas.
I realise this site doesnt allow people to diagnose and treat and im not looking for that.
I intend to get myself straight to a physio monday morning.
Went out for a four mile there and had to stop 30 seconds in with the pain. ignored it and ran on and stopped 3 times in total.
I realise this cant be good.

I suppose im looking for opinions really as to how serious it would be if I was told I needed total rest from the running for the next 17 days.

TBH It would take a broken leg to keep me off the starting line at this stage but I dont want the 26 to be the same as those 4 just there.

    Thanks for any opinions offered.

    .

Firstly, just to clarify my original post - I meant that you won't lose any fitness if you don't run until you've had a chance to see a physio. Obviously if you didn't run between now and the marathon, your fitness will fall back.

Wait until you see a physio and see what he/she says. Don't worry too much yet, it could easily be solved with some massage or similar and a few days rest.

Sorry to hear of your injury/pain.

How has your training been up to this point? How many 18+ miles have you done?

If it has been good - say consistently building for the last number of months, then you will loose some fitness, but not that much IMO. If yo have been training well up to now and have the endurance of running a few 20 milers then you should be able to have a good day out on the 25th, if your fully healed by then. Your O/A time may suffer slightly - but this all depends on what has come before!

All the best and I hope you get sorted swiftly.

    thanks Macanri
my training has been pretty strict to the HH novice plan.
This means I have a 16,12,18,14,20 up to this point.
I have no real prior running experience.
Its all quite new and its been stressful on my body as I knew it would be.
It had been advised by some on this board not to rush into this but I did anyway.
But really I've felt great recently. Im right on track for a finish!
Wont break the land speed record this time around.
Id be very dissapointed if I cant make the 25th over this.

grifter09, take it handy and listen to your own mind and body.
You got this far so you'll be fine, rest is better at this stage than miles.
Be wary of advice from people who say they are/were "injured" and heal overnight  , you'll know when you are ready to go yourself :)
