    Thanks.

Yes, that's a good price. Extending the warranty with Pixmania is expensive thought.

It's reduced to €1179 in Argos now.

    50" PANASONIC VIERA TXP50G10 Plasma - €929.86 including 5 yr warranty.

It is 100hz, but being plasma, that is better than 200hz on an LCD - which is there to improve the appearance of motion, something which plasmas have no problem with so they don't need 200hz to fix a problem they don't have.

Oh, and it also has an inbuilt Freesat tuner - and it's 50" :D

So, why isn't everyone buying plasmas?

    Thanks.

I don't know, I did. Why do Plasmas top all the AV reviews and people still go out and buy inferior LEDs, when they are also more expensive?

Plasmas suffer from screen burn and also use up over twice as much power as LED.

Screen burn is a thing of the past and a Panasonic TX-P50VT20B has an average power consumption of 252w in use.

Most of those watts go to heating the room. The average gas usage for an Irish houshold is 25,000 kwh per year, which works out at about 2,853 watts every hour - 24/7/365. So if you have the TV on, you can turn down the heating by a tiny amount as a tiny fraction of the heat needed to heat your home will be coming from the TV rather than from gas. Would I care that a tiny fraction of the energy I pay for to heat my house is being paid for at electricity rates rather than gas - er, no.

I saw the demo of the 600hz refresh rate Panasonic VT series today and ity changed my mind on plasma, comes with a 5 year warrenty.

In the end I went for a Sony KDL-40HX703. Sony in Dundrum are offering a VAT back deal, plus a 5 year warranty. (only started today) So, I pay €975. Not bad for what is a nice piece of kit that has been very favourably reviewed. I just couldn't resist. ;)

The Philips is gorgeous, but just too pricey when compared to this offer.

    Totally love it! :D

Picture is outstanding - extremely natural looking colour (once you've tweaked it in settings), sports viewing is excellent with Motionflow just set to Standard (as opposed to high), good sound (I've set it to surround). Also, the design is gorgeous. Very Sony. The screen is surrounded by a black frame, nothing else. As a friend said, "It will never age."

Finally, HD is sensational. I'd only ever seen HD in my still images. Never on television. But, you can see everything. Too much at times. e.g. Harry Rednapp's face in close up after the opposition score a goal! :p

Factor in the 5 year warranty and the VAT back offer at the moment (making it about €980), and it's a superb buy IMHO.

I've no complaints. The reviews on Techradar, WhatHiFi etc. that I read got it absolutely right.

I also bought one of the three tier black, tempered glass tables that Sony sell for €99. (reduced from €149 when you buy a TV). Really completes the picture, so to speak.

Ps. Had Sky installed last week. Non-HD picture is vastly superior to UPC.
