Hi all i could not afford a wood kit so I tried out this the other day on a thompson M1A1, just so you know I have never done this before but its really simple you just have to be brave!
Get yourself a small bottle of black and brown acrylic paint, a small bottle of acrylic matt varnish and a good quality medium paintbrush, i paid less than eight euro for the lot.
Remove all the furniture and get yourself some 800 wet and dry paper and rub down the seams, make sure everything is clean and dry.
Get the brush and dab a wee bit of black and brown on the brush, then following the grain just strip it on dont panic if it looks pure black because your gonna remove most of it with kitchen towel. You have to work quick enough as it dries quite quickly but will come off with thinners,
allow to dry for at least 24 hours then go over with the matt varnish and let it dry for a couple of days to get a really hard and durable skin on it, thats it.
This what mine turned out like

    After

its a simple technique that you should try you can apply it to any plastice wood, let me know what you think

p.s. If anyone has any tips on how to subdue printed trades please let me know, cheers
