Going to need some more information here.

The fundamental question is what does your lesbianism have to do with any of these things? Or at least what do you think it has to do with them?

    Hi Niamh,

The common view these days is that gay people are out and proud. For the lucky ones, it can be like that, others take some time to adjust to getting used to the new "you".

You dont say how long it has been since you realised this about yourself or why you think you've become the person you describe. Did something happen to affect you and your confidence?
What I would say is to give yourself a break; dont be so hard on yourself. Give yourself time to be more comfortable in your skin and with those around you.

Have you seen any of the It Gets Better campaign? (You can see videos on youtube)

Hey just to say that in the months after I came out (ie now) I felt pretty **** about being gay and basically myself and I didn't feel that way before. I've lost a lot of friends and I feel like I've failed my family. I don't know if thats in any way similar to what you are going to, we kind of need more backstory.

dont think of it as changing from the old you think of it as your finally becoming the real you.

stack the deck in your favour, take things at your own pace.

youll find a nice girl someday to settle down with and the world wil be fine. youll look back at things now and laugh about it all. :)

You have not changed at all. Most people think they somehow change into a different person when they come out or when they realised they are interested in people of the same sex but as this usually happens in the teenage years it has more to do with hormones and teenage angst than any change in your personality.

Judging by her user name, she's in her early 20's. Being gay or lesbian is nothing to be ashamed of, but it seems that you are possibly in the early stages of acceptance. With this people will view you differently and possibly act differently towards you in a way.

In time, your acceptance of being a lesbian will change and you will grow more comfortable with yourself. Your true friends will stick with you no matter what and those you lose, well it wasn't meant to be. So don't worry about it and check out a few groups in your locality and you'll make new friends in no time. :)

The reason that the rest of the world and indeed Ireland keep giving the LGBT community more and more rights is because we are EQUAL. You have absolutely nothing to be ashamed of, love yourself and be proud! We within the LGBT society naturally grow up to be so much more accepting and loving towards other people than our straight counterparts, because of the discrimination that we're subject to. Just remember that we're well on the way to a world where people will be so accepting that when women are pregnant, they'll be just as curious about their baby's sexuality as their sex.

    hi niamh.
to lose *friends* because of your sexuality is crazy, but maybe they need time to adjust, or they could have a problem with their own sexuality... have you contacted the lesbian phone line, they are very helpful
