1st post in this forum ...

Always had a fascination for timepieces, especially mechanical ones but never had (and probably never will have) the money or guts to spend hundreds or even thousands on what is basically "just" a watch.

So today I made myself a small birthday present and bought an affordable automatic watch with a geeky window to see some of the mechanics front and back. Can't wait to get it now.

    Pictures nicked off the net:

this is a rounout model ...used to be around 490 Euro retail, I got it for 160 incl. freight

160 quid for an auto, with a wind indicator? You cannot go wrong in my humble. Nice find. It'll be interesting to see how good a timekeeper it ends up being. Either way like I said you cant go wrong at that money.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

Well, it has finally arrived today (UPS was dead slow in delivering) and to say that I'm happy would be an understatement.

As far as bang for your buck goes, I don't think that you could do much better than this watch / this brand.

It's a nice, solid watch of remarkably good finish with a few nice little details. Multi-textured watchface, nice proud logo, etched crown, hands and markings look like quality, nothing "cheap" about this watch except maybe that the otherwise solid bracelet is a bit "talkative" when you shake your hand.

The "open heart" and the glass back are a nice feature that will no doubt mesmerize me for months to come. The automatic winder is very reactive, within two hours of admiring the watch, resizing the bracelet and wearing it for a bit, it's already fully charged ...no vigorous shaking required.

At 38 mm without crown it's what goes for "small" these days but I wouldn't want it any bigger as this design isn't really what you'd call a "loud" watch and it looks quite distinguished as is, IMO

I would certainly buy again ...might just get me another Orient watch ...something sporty perhaps. (It's christmas soon, isn't it? :D)

I bougth from amazon.de, but this is the website behind it that did the delivery http://www.schoeneuhren.de/

Nice choice, for a watch that looks good and won't bankrupt you to replace you can't go far wrong. If you want a sportier Orient you could do a lot worse than a Mako. Model number CEM65002D. Google it, its pretty good for the money.

    So far, so good

During the day, while I'm wearing it, it seems to loose about 5 seconds. Seems to, because it's a bit hard to tell ..the watch can't be hacked and the second hand is very small ..so it could be 4 or 6 seconds.
Put it down over night, with the face up and it seems to catch up most of the lost seconds.

I set it to time.is when I first got it going and between now and then it has lost 5 seconds which I expect will be 0-3 seconds by tomorrow morning after a nights catching up.

If that trend continues then I'd say it's pretty damn accurate, as my computer clock has gained 6.5 seconds (according to time.is) in the same period :D

enjoy you citizen, do not worry over a slight loss in time, leave that to the time junkies.

yepp ... as long as I don't have to re-set it every day I don't really care. After all it's an analog watch that you only glance at to read the time, so the odd second or even minute doesn't really matter. (Still happy though that it doesn't seem to be very far out so far)

I have a radio controlled alarm clock for precise time if I need it :D
