Megadrive modding

So I recently revived my Megadrive after finally getting around to aquiring some working controllers, and Im noticing the games are slower than what Ive been used to playing (emulators). From what Ive read this is down to my games being PAL, is that correct?

If that is the case, I have some questions if I may!

    1. Is it possible to mod a Megadrive so it can switch between PAL and NTSC
(I think I remember reading on here it can be done)?

    2. If this is possible is it expensive to get done?

    3. Will it speed up my PAL games or would I need to get NTSC games in order to notice a difference?

Appreciate any help with this :D

Well just do a 50/60 Hz and a region mod and you'll be sorted.

Both can be done at the same time and are easy and cheap to do

Mega Drive Mod is a good guide that helped me when i was doing it

Hmmm Im not the best with soldering and the likes and Im not fond of the idea of bricking my childhood pride and joy! Is there anyone around who mods old consoles? I took a look in the console modding thread but anyone in the sticky seems to only be doing new consoles.

Yep, for all these years, you've been playing neutered slow games.

    Indeed it is.

Depends who does it, but in the region of €20.

The Megadrive's speed is controlled by the console. So you can put a PAL game in and at the flick of a switch, it'll run in NTSC at full speed.

Some PAL games are region locked, but you can get around this easily with a modded console and run them at full speed.
