Medical Cards and dentistry.

Can anyone explain, blow for blow, what a medical card covers when it comes to dentistry?

Ive been all over citizens information and the dental associates sites but both are nothing but vague generalizations.

Anyone know the full story?

With the cuts backs all you are allowed is an exam. That doesnt even cover a clean!!

You are also allowed emergency cover of an crown or a pulled tooth, but with an emergency I dont know what classes as an emergency!

But you would be better asking your denist.

Basically a dental ' emergency ' is when you are in pain at the time of presenting to the dentist.
Be aware that not all dentists accept Medical Cards.

Ok, so I have a bad tooth ache, it genuinely hurts all of the time, I know exactly whats wrong, and most likely, I'm looking at an extraction. So regardless of lack distress, I will be presenting myself to my dentist in pain tomorrow. Does that sound like its covered?

I know youre thinking "Just ask him", but I'd like to go in tomorrow having a pretty good idea of what the law allows.

And the dentist I've selected definitely takes medical card.

Yeah , according to my understanding of it you would be covered by your card.

It currently covers one examination per year, up to two fillings in an emergency and extractions. That's it.

Hi guys,

Just back from the dentist.

The medical card now covers examinations with no work done, two fillings, and an extraction per year.

It also covers any emergency work needed from that point on.

Just thought you'd all like to know what the pro said

And? You both said the same thing bar my dentist said what happens in an emergency following the use of your 1 extraction and 2 fillings.

Is any political party saying they will return the previous entitlements to medical holders for dentistry?

It's probably not a major issue to them

I unfortunately don't see that happening

Oh well, 2 fillings an an extraction down, a lot more to go, lol.
