Suit in washing machine?

Hi there, I recently bought a machine-washable suit from M&S, I'm just wondering would I be better off getting it drycleaned anyway?

Over prolonged time would putting the suit in the washing machine cause damage or wear to it?

I probably won't be wearing the suit very often, a few times a year most likely.

    Thanks!

Avoid the washing machine. If you only wear it a couple of times a year then a dry cleaning once a year is enough. Put it on a cederwood hanger and put a dust cover over it and it'll be good to go.
Machine washing will break down the fusable materials in the jacket and it will quickly lose it's shape.

    I'm older than Minecraft goats.

I'm with OG on this one. Even if it says machine washable, I'd rather not risk it and have the suit dry cleaned instead. It'll also ensure prolong the life of the suit. Plus it'll be pressed when you get it dry cleaned so won't have to iron it!

Got a machine washable suit in next a few years ago, first wash the pants shrank horribly. I did get them replaced but since I'd paid for alterations it wasn't really good enough (now I wash everything washable before alterations, lesson learned). The colour faded as well. Ironing a jacket is a NIGHTMARE, I can't get it right.

I machine wash dry clean only all the time, except suits.

I'd still get it dry cleaned and pressed tbh.

Saves hassle. The innards of suits are never really meant to be washed.
