    Hi Folks,

Ive had a 01 peugeot 306 meridian on donedeal for about a fortnight now with not a sniff of interest.

    http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/1565869

Is it overpriced? Your opinions are welcomed.

    TIA!

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

    FWIW, I think it's a bargain.

What would help a lot is if the car had a longer NCT. Did you know you can get the car tested 3 months before it's due? So if your car is still not sold next month, get it tested and I'm sure it will sell within a few days for that price, when it has a 27 month NCT with it :)

but mine was priced at 1,250 euro an mine was silver,

    hope this helps.

Those photos give me the first impression that the seller has little or no interest in what they are selling which in turn would have me thinking that the car was not cared for either. Nothing about it would encourage me to go look at the car.

Wash and polish the car, a couple of hours of elbow greace can make a huge difference. Also park the car at a place with a nicer background than the front drive of a house. Take photos of the exterior and interior at better angles to show off the condition and lines of the car.

It looks ten times worse when its dirty. Youre competing with how many thousand similar cars on DoneDeal; you need to make yours standout from the rest.

This is how to take pictures of a car:
    http://www.autoquake.com/used-peugeot-307/1.6-s-5dr-petrol-manual/inspid=26851

Your photos, your description and your price earn you the phonecall/enquiry. It's only after that hurdle that it's up to you to sell the car.

That's a very good template, but it's also a great example of the pitfalls of giving too much information. Before even reaching for the telephone I can see that the car has mismatched tyres (two of which are made by 'Sunfull' and that the brake discs (after only 30k miles) are in bits. Basically that ad has told me that the car's been hacked and polished for resale.:)

Agreed about the 306 though - a wash, some better pics and a long NCT and i'd even ask a bit more for it!

What professionally in a studio ?
It would cost more for this guy to get pics like that done than he will get for the car in the first place

I'm pretty sure -Chris- means the format.

Yes but thats part of it. How do you take pictures of a car with no background like that as everyone always advises without a studio ? There will always be some distracting background for example. Althou I take your point about the format - it does a good job demonstrating the seatbelts are all present and accounted for for example.

    I mean the format.

Here's one in a "carpark" with a very distracting background:
    http://www.fostermotorco.ie/usedcars/index.cfm?fuseaction=car&carID=201038199613484

Photos across the front & back seats (interior condition), photo of the speedometer for mileage, photo into boot (not sure why I like that one, I guess it's indicative of a well kept car. I think they're missing photos taken to show the car 3/4 view.

Here's another car photo'd for an ad - photographed in Marlay Park on a clear day:

Neither set of photos done in a studio, nor by professional photographers. Both present the cars well. All it takes is a little effort.

Well I had quite nice photos taken of mine - across back seats, boot everything. Very clean car. Didn't make any difference - still got very little calls. Still first person who saw it bought it cause it was in such good nick. But really photos didn't seem to help much

Did you get the call that sold the car as a result of the ad with the nice pics?

I think photos make a big difference...if I see very few photos, (3 or less ) with exterior shots only, I automatically think..."what are they hiding"...there are things I like to know before taking the trouble to visit the owner- condition inside and out, service history (especially dealer), number of owners, NCT length, mileage - if any 1 of these is not present, I tend to look elsewhere first...maybe others do the same thing?

Agreed. When I bought my car, it had a year and bit before the next NCT - by which time I had my car loan nearly paid off - handy in case it needed any work done. If the car is sold with only a few months NCT left, alarm bells flash, and I'm thinking "they're selling, as they don't think it'll pass the NCT" so I don't buy it.

But yeah, do a €10 machine wash & wax in your local garage, and take photo's of it somewhere. Clean shiny car looks better than a dirty car like yours.

As said by most folk above, more pics and have it clean also show the reg. Also it takes more than 2 weeks to sell a car quite often, patience is a virtue. Took me guts of a month or even longer to sell my last few cars, 1993 520i, 1992 Merc 250, 1993 Prelude, all went for decent money and I had manies the timewaster to entertain before they were sold.

Nope. Mileage. Mine had much lower mileage than the others available. Fact of the matter is in this market it came down to one thing - price. Nobody gave a crap that min had lower mileage and was visibly in great nick on the photos cause it was priced a bit higher than the competitors - which were clearly sh1t-boxes - I checked. i got some interest in the forms of texts asking me would I sell for sh1tbox rates which I said know too. I ended up selling it for pretty much the same price as aid ****boxes but I had to shift it after two months of trying

This is quite true unfortunately, people take a risk on a rubbish example of a car to save a few quid up front. Im frequently tempted too so I know it all too well.

The 530i Tourings Im selling has animal servicing and is priced ever so slightly over boggo spec 520i Tourings, will see how it goes.

Put up a picture of the engine bay. Thats the first thing I would always look at on done deal.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,035 ✭✭✭✭-Chris-

Well it would make difference if you've bought 100 cars from donedeal or never bought a car in your life.
That would definitely affect my decision as to how much weight I'd put on your opinion that photos of an engine bay are desirable.
    I'm sure I'm not alone.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,815 ✭✭✭✭Anan1

Would you even paint one panel for the cost of detailing an engine bay?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73 ✭✭tony l

engine bay wont matter to much in pics,
once there is a semi clean engine bay in one pic,
its when they come to view it...
car needs a good scrub to get it lookin like it was cared for.

give the hoover a good work out,
an wash the windows.. i hate dirty windows

hope she sells soon for ya lad.
