The Terracan used to give problems with the internals of the fuel pump breaking up.

The symptoms are exactly what you describe. There was a full recall on these where the entire fuel system was replaced from the fuel tank right up to the pump and included fuel lines, pump etc.

Theres a really easy way to check whether this is the issue with yours.

Drain some diesel from the tank into a clear glass.Hold a really strong magnet to the bottom of the glass and if it is the pump broken up there will be loads of metal fillings attracted to the bottom of the glass from the fuel.

As far as I knew every Terracan sold over here had this recall carried out but maybe yours was missed or it could be a Uk import.

If you do find the above in the fuel I think Hyundai are still carrying out this recall under warranty no matter hold old the vehicle.
