Skiing in France

Hi, there is a group of us going skiing early February and we had originally decided to go to Livigno again. We then came across Val D'isere in France and it kind of swayed our minds a bit especially when we saw a hotel there with an outdoor pool. The price was more expensive but we found another hotel in Charmonix in France for cheaper also with a pool.

The main concern I have with going skiing in France is that I have heard that is a lot more expensive for things like food and drink. Would anyone here have any experience of those resorts in France regards prices or would anyone have any other suggestions on places to go to that would have a lively apres ski? We would like to have a place with a pool in it, preferably outdoor.

    Cheers for any help guys.

Its not France as a country its just the more famous\expensive resorts.

I did Val Disere a couple of years and Yes it was quite expensive, even though it was in early december. Good resort apart from that.

For something of similar size you could always try Merribel \ Monnerat. Its another huge area with plenty of skiing.

The name resorts like Chamonix and Val D'Isere are expensive, although restaurants and bars at the outskirts of the system are cheaper. But unless you insist on having massive milage of piste, and people who speak English, there are a lot of French resorts which are much cheaper.

La Toussuire, for instance, is part of a huge linked area, but almost no-one has heard of it and the prices are half what you'd pay elsewhere.
