I have just got a Honda CRV 2.00litre that the timing belt has gone and engine is ducked as they say! my query is... The body is light so can I put a 1.4 Civic engine into it for more economical reasons (petrol / motor tax etc.) Can this be done or is it a mad idea?!? (Thank you, by the way)

It can be done but by the time youve paid for all the messing with wiring and complications it would be cheaper to just buy a second hand engine. (Its not a standard engine swap) Different running gear and voodo.

On the upside someone like me may be tempted to buy broken crv engine *cough* * cough*

    hhhhhhmmmm B20 nom nom

Check up on some of the honda sites like Honda-tech for some good info id say it could be done easily enough, but should you :o i dont think so, the 1.4 would be so underpowered for the CR-V , not much torque either, its not a good match at all tbh, id sell the Knackered B20 and fund a new, well 2nd hand engine.

Maybe look into a HR-V 1.6 engine. Has a similar 4wd system as the CRV afaik.

You will have feck all torque though. My last car was a HR-V and it was fantastic except for the non existent torque.

You've probably got a B20, they're the worst of the B series Honda engines.

Did they tell you exactly whats gone ?

You'll pick up a second hand B20 for peanuts. I've got one in the shed.

1.4 would be a bad idea

really??? the worst B-Series engine  personally i would have said the B17 but really just down to lack of aftermarket support. B20 are a very sought after engine, and with the right mods in a light chassis they can be alot of fun and dish out a few suprises

i thought that the 2.0 accord had a timing chain? instead of belt?

op if you look in the log book of the CRV, the first few digits of the engine number indicates the model number of the engine..

    ie K20Axxxxxxxxx
