Laois football was rocked last last weekend with the tragic news that Peter McNulty had passed away at the age of just 25.

Peter was a talented footballer with Laois and Portlaoise and was one of the most decorated players in the county. He was the holder of five Laois SFC medals, two Leinster club medals, an All Ireland minor medal (2003), captained Laois to a Leinster U-21 medal (2006) and the full range of underage club medals in Laois.

Blessed with a sweet left foot and wonderful balance and vision, he was marked out as a special talent from a young age. This talent was allied to a strong work ethic and bore fruit on the playing fields all over the country with Portlaoise and Laois. Known as "Chicken" and "Chief" to his team-mates.

Peter was buried on Wednesday, and his passing has left a massive void in the town and in throughout the county.

I'd like to pay respects to pay my respects to a friend, classmate and one of the finest footballers I've ever had the pleasure to with and against - R.I.P. Peter, you will be missed.

It's so sad when life ends at such a young age.

May he rest in peace and his family take some comfort in the joy he gave to the supporters of Laois in his short lifetime.
