Best place to sit on a plane

    HI,

I'm going to Australia and flying with Etihad in 2 weeks with one stop over in Abu Dhabi.

I'm going to check in early and see if I can get an upgrade to business class (highly unlikely but God loves a tryer!!) but failing that, where in people's experience is the best place to sit on a plane?

I'm thinking one of the emergency seats so I get lots more leg room and as I am on my own a window seat so I can rest my head and sleep without drooling on my neighbour!!!

Has anyone any opinions on this or like to offer advise on getting an upgrade????:D:D:D

    Thanks in advance!

How exactly are you going to try for an upgrade? Smile?

Paying the upgrade fee would be one way to do it..........

In terms of best seats I would suggest a window forward of the wing.

Thus you get a bit of a view with the majority of the engine noise and vibration behind you. Ethiad use the A332 so ask for a row close to door 2. (wing is between doors 2 and 3) Not sure how far back their Business section is though. Can you not prebook on the website?
(Personally I prefer aisle as I like the freedom to get up when I want and I can nod off very easily if woken)

get there early and be nicely dressed - don't need to go overboard but don't go in trackies, runners, etc. anytime i've got upgrade I felt it made a difference to be dressed well. be confident and ask nicely. if you don't get upgrade at desk, try again when you are on board. it does sometimes happen :). Got it twice flying with Virgin to Oz - I was a 1st class virgin :D and boy was it nice.

Best place to sit guarranteed is the of the plane (cockpit) to the wing seats anywhere behind that not much leg room as its more turbulant and plus its more cramped because the seats at the emergency doors get pushed back so always between the front seats and wings. ;)

Personally, my favourite seat is the one at the very very very back of the plane. Right in front of the toilets. Ok, its not exactly ideal for people to sit beside the toilets and every now and again you may get a bad whiff (like twice on the whole trip) but last time I went to Australia and two weeks ago when I flew home from the US, I took this seat. Not only was it comfortable but because it was such a big plane and wasn't packed, I got two whole seats to myself. No one else had chosen those seats so I was quite comfortable. I was jealous of the guy who booked a seat in the middle four seats and had no one beside him at all so he could stretch out. But I was still happy to put my feet up!

It depends if you're a sleeper or a pee-er. I never sleep on planes, but if I was inclined to I would pick the window so that I could put a cushion next to my head and lean against it.

But I'm a regular bathroom visitor so for me it has to be the aisle. I like to get up often and stretch (deep vein thrombosis is not just for the old - stretch!). Also you can get clautrophbic if the seats are too small.

Anything but middle! Made that mistake last week. Never again.

Where ever you choose to sit be sure to bring your talking sello-tape dispenser with you, just in case!

I got one at the emergency exit for a 4 hour flight on the return which was brilliant when your tall :D

I was cramped in the middle going over and it was less than brilliant!

Great piece of info from the pee-er/sleeper however :D

I've managed to get the exit row seats on almost every flight I've taken over the last 2 years (20 flights or so).

Did 10 hours to Dominican Republic recently and had exit row with no seats at all in front both there and back. Best seat you can have in economy.

When you're flying long haul I always find it best to ask for an aisle seat.

seats at the back are the best in my opinion. much quieter than emergency row seats and you are near the toilet also. you are also near the exit at the back for when the plane lands.
