I know a few people here watch this guy. I thought this deserved its own thread.
He has recently started a theme on his daily shows. This is the 3rd Monday where he gives a challenge to players who then sumbit their replays.

For example last week it was Carrier Rushing for Protoss

    http://day9tv.blip.tv/file/4205104/
This weeks is very funny, Terran players may not build ANY marines, marauders or tanks. Approx 35 mins in you see a guy using planetary fortresses to attack,he ends up with 3 of them

His challenge to be submitted for next Monday is to play 3v3 or 4v4. At the very start each player types the SINGLE offensive unit type they will use that game. So thor, tank, viking, roach, baneling, stalker, colossi DT are are valid choices.

If you want to for archon obviously you must go HT first, but you must morph to archin as soon as possible. Zerg are allowed to build queens, overlords, overseers.

Am sure a boards 4v4 with all boardsies would be fun.
    email is: monday@day9.tv

What I like about some of the replays was that after scouting the opponent figured out at they were doing Funday Monday. The Funday replays were all ladder games too.

Im only on Bronze and was doing well in a PvP match until I slacked off a bit - he went Carriers with a few Rays and it was GG for me.

I dont really watch funday mondays he goes into his 'whacky zany' mood, just for show

Watch some normal days, much more sombre and pleasant to watch, some of the best analysis of the game you can get on the net, just about everyone else looks up to him

Agreed, despite some of his quirks I dont think there are many that understand the game as well as he does.

I've warmed to his ways - he's a bit OTT allright, but he's much more entertaining - with the knowledge to back it up too - than most commentators. Sometimes watching the replays you sense ppl are taking it all wayyyy too seriously - day9's at least makes it all seem a bit more fun.

I think he could do with cutting it down.

I just cant find myself holding out to watch the whole thing as much as I'd like to.

But as regards quality its right up there, his commentry is class also.

Weaponofchoice by djwheat is another good one, more podcasty to listen to on your travels and worth a goosey.

The ads before every episode are wrecking my noodle big time.

In his defence he does the casts live taking questions etc from a chat feed and anything done live always tends to go on abit especially if its mostly unrehersed.

If you were watching live and interacting i'd say his long winded answers etc would be more interesting and someone really needs to edit down his programmes when they are uploaded. But that takes time.

I like him enough but he is much more of a stikler then most other casters over little details.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,140 ✭✭✭✭TheDoc

But it is those little details that count :P

"Only expanding when were dead broke in the main, sounds like how I make it from rent month-to-month" lol I take back everything I said

This weeks one is good! I'd like to try some tonight if anyone is up for it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,381 ✭✭✭Br4tPr1nc3

    id be up for that.

    Just watched the Tuesday daily.

This weeks Funday Monday challenge (to be viewed on Monday 18th) shall be "play a multiplayer but you must kill your opponents in alphabetical order. You can defend of course however you cannot chase any attackers and if you meet the wrong army in the middle of the map you must retreat."

Day9 does apologise to anyone called Admiral Aadvaark as they will be first to die!
He also hopes to see a 3v3 with both sides doing the task.

The following week (19th-24th, cast on 25th) will be a return to the single unit multiplayer challenge. This will probably be a 2 hour long cast as it takes so long for players using a single unit type to finish the game.

The task for next weeks Newbie Tuesday is "attempt a drop attack that fails"
I'm going to try some thor drops.........

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,140 ✭✭✭✭TheDoc

    That sounds epic tbh :D

I saw Day9 do some commentary for BW and wasn't a massive fan - he seems to have toned things back a bit and I really enjoyed the episode posted above (#3). I think he has become a better commentator with the practice and time! Watching ep. 4 now

    🤪

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,140 ✭✭✭✭TheDoc

Yeah , I'm loving Friendday Tuesdays, getting to hear double commentary with solid players, learning even more now!

Its good to hear the thought process behind the decisions we see on the replays. While a commentator can only guess we can hear how Huk (or others) react to opponents moves.

On my drop attempts, I won 3 of 3. So no submission to Day9!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,130 ✭✭✭Pimp Ninja

I have to say I think that Day9 is one of the best commentaries out there. I find him completely halarious to watch.

Im not new to SC. Used to play BW back a few years ago, but this was mostly friends V's AI on the LAN. Having never played SC any way other than Co-Op against AI, I really want to start playing some ladder and whatnot.

This is where I started watching various different guys on youtube.

I also enjoy watching ForceSC2strategy, BlizShouter, and PsyStarcraft.
SaharaDrac can also be good from time to time.

Ive skipped out on this weeks Funday Monday - username is Anotheridiot - but look forward to these videos the most. :)

Ill finish out with the best SC commentary quote
"I went three ghost academy nukes transitioning into losing my whole fracking base"
    - pure quality giggles.

199 is the last episode - no 200 yet? I think Day9 said he was away for a bit - suspecting its this?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,140 ✭✭✭✭TheDoc

Well he was at IEM came home then off to MLG for the weekend and he has another tournamenet he is going away to straight away, he said episode 203 would be Thursday so I guess a new episode goes up todya at some point.

    i like his commentary,
well like most of the sc2 commentary, i like it,
the extra bit of reasoning and what not while watching.

but im not a fan of him stopping the replay so he can try explain something.

thats why i like hdstarcraft that bit more.
hes just goes on with it.

although i am starting to like day9 a bit more. Just need to ignore some of his going ons.

    HD etc commentate.

Day 9 analyses. He stops so he can make sure you know the point of x and y.

He caters for a very broad range of skill which I like to see and I like when he stops and makes you understand something, its good stuff.

Remember those shows are done live and he has a screen that just takes questions so I'm sure there are people that appreciate him taking the time to explain stuff.

Great show really. Have to agree with him - the last one (halfsies) was a bit off. Did like the final match where one player built everything and one just gathered resources.

Must be hard on the player that is doing everything - attack, defend, defend other base :) Have to get lucky too - if they attack the gatherer at the right time, it's insta-gg.

    🤪

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,327 ✭✭✭NeoSlicerZ

next week's is you must attack every 5 mins.

Attack with all your units not counting workers and Queens to be specific. Poking up with a control group of zerglings doesn't count. :D

Definately a response to people turtling so much in replays he has to watch for these :D

I like these sort of dailies. As much as they are a laugh, they teach you some fundamentals.

Granted every five minutes is a bit OTT, you might start learning the "feel" of when to attack and when not too, learning about battles you can win and you cant.

I thought the expanding thing was a bit mad, but tried three games myself and found myself getting three bases with ease and went onto win the games, ( granted only customs against a mate) but it was well interesting.

We kept throwing little assaulting forces on each other, knowing obviously when we were expanding and it made the game pretty intense and well fun :)

Just watched the latest..............really funny. As usual losing your base featured prominently.....but the builds were quite good.

Forget about going for siege, thors or banshees to help your marines, just go straight to cruisers....

While a fun example it does show how certain units can complement each other. Marines/helions use minerals, the cruisers use your gas. And I did like the wall off at the bottom of the ramp with bunkers at the top......
