Apple MacBookPro Diagnostics Cost

My macbookpro wont boot up and its out of warranty. CompuB in Dublin want to charge me 75 YOYOs for a diagnostic check. Surely that's a bit much for what basically is connecting the device to another machine isn't it? Why the cost? Would an Apple store do it for free? Say in Belfast?

Why not ring them and ask?

You say it wont boot, does it turn on at all? If it does you could boot into a linux live operating system like Ubuntu and run it's hardware diagnostics software.
