hmmmm.....wanted to take the plunge on the iphone 4 and now am reconsidering going with 02.

They seemed to have changed their plans as of this morning.

45 Euro gets you only 500mb of data....gone are the 2GB.

This is just plain rip off....yesterday it was 2GB and today it's 500mb.

So in a nutshell...we pay more for less. It's gone up a fiver and you get less for it.

    Details here ->
    http://www.o2online.ie/shop/plans/

    O2 Advance 150 + 500MB Data €45

O2 are a rip off anyway. Probably just as cheap buying one sim free and going on the Meteor Smart Lite 30 deal. 200 mins, 200txts 1gb of data and free meteor calls and texts.

We put our other number on Voda last week as they wouldn't allow our second number to upgrade to ip4, only 1 number per account they said.

Staff on the phones said they are losing customers every day over it.

I'm not a very heavy data user on iPhone but I came close to my 2 gigs last month and looks similar this month. Don't use wifi much as don't have access but I browse a fair bit but don't really download music or apps. I'd be over my 500 in no time. Luckily I've 2 gigs!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,197 ✭✭✭elvis jones

Actually after my upgrade all i saw was 1024mb.........no sign of 2gb on my account

I would consider you a very heavy user. 90% of users dont go over 500mb so they* say

They being the phone companies. Probably just trying to justify lowering the usage cap.

Vodafone have also reduced there data allowance. Only 500mb per month if on the €45 monthly deal. On €60-€100 per month get 1GB.

Yes but they did that on launch day and not a few months later.

I guess one of the reasons "may" be i dont have access to wifi anywhere at home or work or where i hang out! I guess a lot of iphone users probably use both. Wouldn't fancy going over my limit though at 2c per mb thats an extra 20 euro per gig! Thieving fookers

Had been waiting ages for O2 to open up to new customers. When I seen the launch today I was disgusted by this sharp practice and certainly won't be going near them. €5 extra pm for a quarter of the data allowance ? Bye bye O2, you've just lost a potential returning customer.

Same as myself. Was considering jumping to O2 once they began offering the iPhone to new customers. Certainly won't be going over there now. May aswell go on Vodafone billpay for it at this rate - if I'm going to pay Vodafone-like rates, I may aswell get the benefit of Vodafone's coverage while I'm at it!

am now considering three or meteor with a sim free iphone4. how riskywould three be. have heard tonnes of bad press about it.

Wow, they nuked the upgrade I had. Not only that but they put the price of the iPhone 4 up on prepay.

    Seriously shabby.

I'm with 3 at the min on the €40 iphone plan. Its excellent, i never go over it and I have 3g coverage pretty much everywhere even in the sticks where i live. I barely had coverage with O2 and I was being fleeced.

O2 are really shooting themselves int he foot lately, the guys that are in control of price plans in O2 must be on a mission to annoy as many customers as possible. I cannot believe the amount of screw ups O2 have made in the last year or so. They have gone from being the best network in the country who listened to their customers and were pretty competitive to probably being the worst and most expensive. Unbelievable.

apologies if this is a naive question, but does the price hike/reduction in data allowance apply to new customers only, or customers with an existing contract aswell?

If you change your tarriff it will apply

I was considering moving to O2 but won't with these new price plans. The GF got out of her iPhone plan when the changes were made and was thinking of signing a new contract in a months time for the new iphone, but not any more.

So congratulations O2, that's two contracts you're lost here alone.

I have iPhone 4 on meteor. 100% perfect. No problems at all. Left O2 and it was the best thing ever. They are a rotten crowd and try and catch the customer out at all costs.

Went into an O2 store on Saturday and in passing mentioned the plan change.
Sales bloke looked at me like I had two heads and denied any such change.

"No, haven't heard anything about that."

    "So, it's still €40/month?" I ask.

"No, it's gone up to €45"

"and the data plan is still 2GB?"

"No, that's been changed to 500MB"

He tried to convince me that most users only use some amount less than the 500 and only the cheapest plan had changed but seriously, I don't like being lied to. I'd change to vodafone only I see they've put their price up and their data allowance down too.

    Cartel much?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,046 ✭✭✭✭L'prof

So is it now €45 a month on the 18 month contract? I got mine recently and got it for €45 with 2GB, but one of the lads has an unlimited data package at the same price!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,966 ✭✭✭JDxtra

Probably wishful thinking, but maybe they increased the price and decreased the data allowance so they can have a "sale" at a later date.

e.g. Limited offer iPhone 4 now only €40/month with four times the data allowance (2Gb instead of 500Mb).

"O2" and "iPhone sale"......you should go into comedy:D

Lets face it they really are just matching what their biggest rival are doing, indeed a cartel of sorts. Akin to to garages on the same road that match petrol prices every time one changes. Not nice but what can you do ?

Me? I jumped ship to 3. I've had no problems and saved a bundle.

In fairness that is bad business ethics and only calls for an investigation of price fixing in the long run.

Competition works by undercutting your competitors. Meteor has a fairly good grasp of how that works both with their Bill Pay and their PAYG services. They are always one step ahead of the game.

    Just to let folks know:
If you buy an unlocked iphone from apple and get meteors bill pay lite it can work out alot cheaper than people think. Im on Smart 30, Its a rolling contract of €30pm, i get 200mins and text to any network, free meteor to meteor calls and texts 1gb of data and an iphone costs 600. Thats €960 for the year for phone and billpay and i have the luxory of having an unlocked phone (which will be worth more when I need to upgrade) and if a new phone comes out i can sign up for it because im not stuck to a Bill. And Meteors Support are probably the best of any telecommunications company.

I just dont get why people are paying so much for so little from O2 and Vodafone?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,197 ✭✭✭elvis jones

People are paying because they can't afford to go out and splash 600 in one go also not all actually like meteor, i for 1 wouldn't go back near them after the dealings myself and my wife had with them.

But i do agree that its just a cartel. But Voda and O2 will only react to eachother, they care little about 3 and meteor because of their small market share compared to them.

€960 for the year versus €839 on O2 for the 32GB? O2 are unlocking phones for customers and they're also entitled to upgrade their phone after a relatively short period of time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,519 ✭✭✭Oafley Jones

Following on from my previous comments I was told that my girlfriends parents small business -nine phones - left o2 yesterday. It's as if they're going out of their way to be uncompetitive at every level.

What would that be, because I have never gotten a straight answer from O2. Unless I over spent by monumental amounts each month, they wouldn't tell me until the end of my contract.

I've never had to wait too long, but I was spending €60 a month at the time, although the gf always got hers around the same time spending €40-50 a month.

02 & Vodafone bill pay customer rule 1; If you raise it they will pay.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,487 ✭✭✭alexmcred

O2 have changed their upgrade policy to tie it to contract length so if you sign up to an 18 month plan you won't get an upgrade until 18 months later.

You can of course pay a lot more to get the iPhone on a 12 month plan

So Quick question, I have the 3g iphone, and nearly a year into the 18 month contract, - I just changed my tariff down, so wondering am i being charged at the new rate?.. and when did they change this? - reason I ask is im fed up to me back teeth with em.. 4 months to setup a direct debit-need I say anymore :-) and really I just want out now...lol
