Bewildered by .RAR files simply vanishing?!?!

    hi all

I have basically downloaded 15 seperate parts to a full DVD.1- 10 yesterday and then 11-15 earlier today. Using file sonic.

Today something strange happened, and (for no reason I can understand) the downloaded files,1-10,just vanished. The only trace i have of them is in my downloads, where you can see all of them having been downloaded in a row yesterday.

In the Downloads box, For 1-10 the open or ''Open containing folder'' is not clickable, whereas it is in the 11-15 one's i downloaded today. I am sure they all were there today but whatever i did (or happened) 1-10 are gone or untraceable. When i go into Winrar the files 11-15 are there but no sign of 1-10.

I am completely confused. I think i can figure out how to extract the files to make it work ok, once they are all there. I got two data recovery programs: recovery toolbox and recover my files but both are not working, or i couldn't use them.

It's really hard to explain. Perhaps if some one wants to help me i could ring them as i think it'll be a nightmare explaining online like this. I couldn't find any satisfactory pages online, though i AM a computer nomad.

We also have a download limit with eircom i have already exceeded and the files 1-10 are a little under 3 gbs. So i'd rather not downlaod the files again!

If anyone can help I love you!
    JAK

You could try to search your C drive or whatever drive the files are on for *.rar

This will find all files with .rar as the extension.

Also probably a foolish question but have you tried the recycle bin?

I have no idea how Filesonic works and since it appears to be a P2P file-sharing utility I'm not about to go looking it up right now, but I'd hazard a guess that you stopped the files from being shared when you had finished downloading them and accidentally deleted them from your computer in the process.

Yes it's a p2p file sharing website. It's good in theory but this debacle has left me befuddled.

Anyway I wonder how i would have done it to all 10 of them as they appeared to download into seperate files.

Again, i am not a computer guy

I guess i'll just download the stuff again

In terms of trying to identify the problem, there are a few things that we'd need to establish:
    • Is this the first time you've used Filesonic?
    • If not, have you ever had problems using Filesonic before?
    • After downloading the files, did you do anything in Filesonic? (In a torrent client, you might stop seeding after hitting a certain ratio, for example)
    • Did you save all the files to the same directory?
    • Can you reproduce the behaviour by downloading other content?
    • If so, can you link to the content you are downloading? (NOTE: For this part you should only use material that can legitimately be redistributed in this manner, eg suitably Creative-Commons-licenced material such as Cory Doctorow's books or films like Infest Wisely).

    --Yes. First time
    -- N/A
--Not as far as i know. I just continued downloading the files with the links the following day.
-- I downloaded them all the same way, clicking on the link, saving to the place the came up first, so i imagine that is all the same place.
-- Not completely sure what you mean here (sorry!). I haven't ried to download another dvd file etc.
    -- same

The below links are, fist, the website that has the DVD content,(15 links at the bottom) and second is page displaying the last part of the 15.rar files. it appears to be a psp website (filesonic). If this helps take a look, i don't know if it will. When i download the fiels they download like if i was downloading a programme, into the downlaods box, not with u torrent etc.

Apologies for the computer ignorance and a million thanks for all the help!

That DVD you've linked to appears to be a recent release of copyrighted material. I don't think boards.ie is likely to encourage or allow folks to help one another download stuff they haven't paid for.
