What is the point in giving Kilkenny a bye into the Leinster semi finals when they have 8 competing teams in the province. Why not have a open draw and give the likes of Carlow and Westmeath the chance to play against a top team. If the GAA are serious about promoting the game in weaker counties and closing the gap, they need to look at their structure. These counties will only get better by playing the best. If you told a Westmeath hurler in October that in June he will be playing Kilkenny he would train harder and challenge himself to be the best so he can play the best. as they say you learn more from your defeats and playing the best.

Just remember there should be a clause where the lower ranked teams like westmeath should get home advantage against tier one teams like Kilkenny in the early stages of the championship. Why? The prospect of not getting hammered by 30points like if its in croke park and most importantly promoting the game within the county by letting people espicially young kids see the best teams in action on their doorstep.

Ah i dunno, if Westmeath, Carlow or whoever, did lets say train like maniacs and got a hiding, it would disillusionise and demoralise players and probably the fickle county boards who put money into the code, which is a strong possibility that would happen, without being too harsh on Westmeath or Carlow, but more a reflection Kilkennys superiority
