Castletroy College-Open Day

Just wondering if anyone can help.

Got the forms home for the Central Application Scheme for secondary schools. All the open days are listed except Castletroy College which says contact school for details. So contacted the school and they advised that they're not having one, that there will be one after the places have been allocated for students and parents.

Does this mean that they anticipate filling all their places from brothers & sisters of former or current students? The admission policy is that brothers & sisters first, children of staff 2nd and then children from surrounding area. We are in the catchment area but no brothers and sisters there so just trying to figure out if that means DS is likely to get in.

It is very hard to get into Castletroy college unless you have right of entry, Find out their admission policy and how certain you are to put them down as a first choice but if your child doesn't get in on the zero round, chances are it will be down to 4/5 choice. We have been doing the rounds for the Boys schools open days not even going to apply for Castletroy as I know we have a very slim chance to get accepted and god forbid were he would end up after that.
    Good Luck
    :D

Thanks Agent99. Yeah, that's what we're worried about. We got their admissions policy which is 1. brothers and sisters 2. children of staff 3. children in the local area 4. children in local primary schools 5. all others.

He falls into category 3. There are 196 places so it's just a case of trying to figure out if they're all likely to fill from 1 and 2 above.

Also doing the rounds of the boys schools. So far so good but Castletroy College would just be so handy.

    Thanks. Best of luck.
