Dirrel now pulls out of the tournament. Thats 3 of the original line up now out of the tourney. I for one am bored with it. It takes way too long and the format is ambitious at best. A knockout tourn would be way better imo.

Ah yeah just read it on boxing scene before coming here. . It was a great concept, but injuries forcing withdrawals was always the great fear when it was announced. Pity. Although I'm still eager to see the outcome of Froch v Abraham- assuming it does in fact go ahead.

Dirrell just didn't want to fight his mate Ward imo. Turning into a bit of a joke now, shame as its nearly been a brilliant competition.
Froch v Abraham should be fun though and its for the WBC belt.

Christ almighty this competition has been an unmitigated disaster.

Postponements, robberies, headbutts, injury-feigning, arguing over venues and pull-outs.

Meanwhile Lucian Bute looks on and laughs.

Bute might well be looking on , and wondering when it will be finished , as he is excluded from the top circle of fights in his division !

    Laughing he is not .
He's stalled over the last 18 months , fighting again with Andrade , and then Edison Miranda ..... and now is lined up to face Jessee Brinkly
What a waste ...peak of his career

Some of Bute's biggest competitors have suffered in one way or another during the Super Six. In fact, you could say all have with the exception of Ward.

    Froch: Lost to Kessler
    Kessler: Lost to Ward
    Abraham: Lost to Dirrell
Dirrell: Lost to Froch (and lost all his credibility with his antics/pullout)

While this has been going on he has remained undefeated and a World Champion, and while I do not condone fighting the level of competition he has faced, I can't help but feel he is happy he didn't get involved in the competition.

I'll be honest it never clicked with me that Dirrell pulled out cos he didn't wanna fight Ward. Has anyone heard who they might get in to fight Ward?

Apparently they offered the slot to our very own Brian Magee who turned it down as he is more or less gauranteed a shot at the wba title. http://www.irish-boxing.com/stories/october10/oct10_magee_wba.html

I dunno, winky wright, ricardo mayorga? :)

Cant beleive they are putting johnson in to be honest. I mean he's quality and is at worst a gate keeper at this stage but to ask him to drop down to 168 after so many years? seems odd is all. Just shows they are badly stuck for names. Id like to see it go to a bit of a wildcard, some young unheralded fighter with a little bit about him. Like a kiko or a prescott.

Glen Johnson vs Allan Green, what an absolute joke of a fight. Johnson is 41 years old, well past has best and has been beaten in three of his last six fights. We shouldn't forget either that he'll be fighting at 168 for the first time in a whopping ten years.
Green is an extremely limited fighter whose only contribution to the Super Six thus far has been that ass-whooping he took at the hands of Andre Ward. Neither man deserves a place in this competition, they're only holding things up.

The tourney should have been KO from the start, the league format is just all over the place. When Kessler pulled out, they should have fast-tracked to the Semi Final's with 1st facing 4th, 2nd facing 3rd, as it happens those fights were scheduled for Stage 3 anyway. When I read the Glen Johnson vs Allan Green had been made, I was completely stunned, I honestly couldn't comprehend how the tournament organisers could do something that stupid.
Dirrell's withdrawal just messes things up firther. Half of the original participants are no longer with us, this isn't the Sugababes line up, this is a freakin boxing tournament. Nobody wants to see a shot 41 year old LHW fight a one dimensional LHW at Super Middleweight. Kick them both out to hell. Have Froch fight Abraham for a spot in the final vs Andre Ward, and allow Andre the opportunity to have a tune up fight in between.

The Ultimate winner can then go on to fight Lucian Bute in a unification bout, and eventually Mikkel Kessler gets a shot at the unified title whenever he is ready to return. Sorted:)

speaking of Kessler, there is a real likelihood he's going to have to call it quits:(

it's a pity as I wanted to see him have another contest with Froch and Ward.

According to this, Ward will fight Bika on November 27 but it will NOT be part of the Super Six

Bika's an awkward opponent, but I see Ward taking a comfortable decision here tbh
