Going to Edinburgh on Saturday with just hand luggage. Is checking in at the airport okay or should I do it online? ie Will it cost me more money to check in my hand baggage at the airport? First time travelling with Aer Lingus with just carry on luggage and been caught out with them before for luggage so just want to make sure...and their website is a bit confusing if anyone could help me out, thanks.

If you do it online you can go straight to security and not have to queue at any of the desks. Definitely the way to go! There's no charge for bringing hand luggage (as long as it's under the weight and size limits).

Do it online. You can even print your boarding pass before hand, meaning you can march straight into the airport and go to the gates.

Oh and the Aer Lingus site is indeed pretty crap.

As everyone says, you can do it online. But to answer the original question: No, you do not have to. It is your choice. Checking in online, at a FastPass machine or at the desk are all free with Aer Lingus.

if I checked in online for my out bound flight, can I use the fast pass machine for my return.
Bloody aer lingus only let you do online check in 30 hours before your flight. I fly monday, return wednesday. so I was only able to print my out going boarding pass. Im worried that I wont be able find an internet cafe to print off my return boarding card. so can I use the fast pass coming back?
Ryan Air is 14 days, which is strange IMO.

With Aer Linugs, all forms of check-in are free and you can mix and match as you wish. So checking in online one way and using FastPass the other is 100% OK. Or you can check in at the desk if you prefer. No difference either way.

You don't even need that. The FastPass machine is happy to accept your passport instead of the booking code.
