Looks like the the UHF aerial is not aligned to a transmitter broadcasting TV3 and TG4. It appears to be pointing at a deflector or NI transmitter.

am in garrison co fermanagh.i tested the vhf aerial on its own first and got all 4 channels crystal clear when i connected the 2 aerials together i lost tv3 and tg4.would be great if you could reply thanks.

What transmitter are you pointing the VHF at.

Sounds like you may have wrong diplexer if you lost channels when you combined the aerials

I would imagine it should be Truskmore in Sligo(if no mountains in the way). You shouldn't be getting TV3 and TG4 on VHF from there though. Only RTE1 & RTE2 with horizontally polarised aerial

If the UHF signal is strong enough, then the VHF aerial will pick it up (don't know about "crystal clear").
Then when it is put through the diplexer, the UHF channels will be screened out.
Your actual UHF aerial must be pointed at a UK transmitter.
Irish digital TV is available from Truskmore on UHF channel 53, if you have the correct receiving equipment (discussed to death elsewhere in this forum)
The VHF transmitter will be switched off in a couple of years.

my vhf antenna is horizontally positioned on the pole and faced towards the truskmore transmitter and my uhf antenna is facing towards the northern ireland transmitter.i used a fringe diplexer green in colour.as tv3 and tg4 are uhf and my uhf antenna is facing to the ni transmitter would that be cancelling out them 2 channels.

You will require a second UHF aerial for TV3 & TG4 from Truskmore. As Randyleprechaun said above the diplexer is not passing thru the UHF channels received by the VHF aerial from the Truskmore transmitter.

Is this the diplexer you are using? VHF Range 174-230 MHz (RTÉ 1&2 Truskmore) UHF Range 470-862 MHz (TV3 & TG4 Truskmore, NI transmitters).

2 UHF & 1 VHF aerials and a UHF/UHF/VHF triplexer required for Truskmore and NI transmitter.

the diplexer vhf range 47-230mhz,uhf 470-862mhz.what kind of uhf antenna would you recommend??and would a triax triplexer be any good for this type of job.??

I have seen VHF aerials pointed at Truskmore bringing in perfect TV3/TG4 even though they shouldnt in theory.

OP along with the second UHF aerial youre going to need a second diplexer

One leg (input) of the second diplexer covering Channels 21-34 (Group A) for your BBC's (and freeview)
the other leg covering 53-68 (groups C/D or E) for TV3/TG4 (and Saorvew)

connect the two UHF aerials to this new diplexer and then connect the output of this diplexer to the "UHF" input on your existing diplexer

The VHF aerial still goes directly to the VHF input on your existing diplexer

That's only if you're receiving from Brougher mtn. main transmitter. (or not: see later posts)That part of west Fermanagh is probably covered by relays (analogue only). OP makes no mention of Freeview.

Any UHF/UHF/VHF triplexer will do. Don't confuse it with a UHF/DAB/FM or similar triplexer.

Adding an additional UHF/UHF diplexer to your existing setup, as Mike 1972 suggested, is another option.

What is your local NI transmitter?

Bazrushe, just out of interest, what kind of TV do you have?
If it's capable of receiving the DTT broadcasts from Truskmore, there'd be no need to bother with the VHF aerial.

    Fair point :o

Although if at all possible it would make sense for them to use Brougher so that they have all the Freeview channels after switchover.

If you're stuck behind a mountain, there's not much you can do about it.

As the VHF aerial and diplexer is already installed I'd keep it just if only just to watch VHF ASO some evening about 2 years from now.

Will be doing the same myself unless the aerial falls down between now and then.

Edit: I'm beginning to feel nostalgic for analogue tv already even though DTT hasn't lauched yet. Must be because it's going to happen for real this time.

If the UK channels are coming from Gortnalee, this is also Group A, and this solution should work.

No Freeview on Gortnalee for another couple of years though.

You are very close to Truskmore so it's not surprising you are getting TV3/TG4 through the VHF aerial.
