    Hi,

I'm new to wordpress. I just installed in an hour ago, I am looking to use wordpress as a blog and CMS for particular pages on an existing static site.

Being the wordpress / CMS noob that I am, I have a quick question.......I have my homepage - index.html and the pages I would like to edit via wordpress would be the likes of Testimonials and Press Coverage type pages.

My question is this: Is it the "done thing" to keep the homepage as is (static) and have "control" only the pages I wish to edit? Or would I be better just converting the whole thing to Wordpress should I ever need to edit the Footer and or the Header?

Going with the original thought of only putting select pages into Wordpress, this would leave me with 2 types of URL:
    The current type:
    www.mysite.com/about.html
    and the wordpress editable ones:
    www.mysite.com/wordpress/testimonials.php

So am I correct in my thinking?
Is this type of file situation common?

Also, if I do convert fully from the current static .html site to a fully wordpress operated situation will I loose the Google-juice that I have built up with the static site or will some 301 redirects cover this?

As far I have known,if you use an index, html of the site before and now install wordpress on that the same site, people searching your site,i.e. mysite.com will go straight to your mysite.com/index.html but if you move the content on that index.html to your main blog site and delete the index.html-people searching to your site mysite.com will go straight to your new blog mysite.com or mysite.com/index.php ,you still have the google juice from your old site.Hope this helps.
