Badger Staggers!

I was going out last night for a bit of a walk and I decided to bring the lamp with me for the craic...I had no gun with me, I just wanted to see what was about....I was strolling along and I gave the lamp a bit of a shine when I noticed a pair of eyes no more than 50 yards ahead of me, it turned out to be a badger! When he seen me the big fella ran off in the opposite direction and only ran about 5 yards when he dropped to the ground like a bag of spuds as if he'd been shot!

I went over for a closer inpsection and I could see that he was still alive and breathing...I kept my distance when I noticed this...he lay motionless for a minute or so and then got up. The poor beast was in a bad way as he was staggering about the place....he seem to have very little use of his back legs. I watched him for a while and he kept staggering about the place...it wasn't a pleasant sight. He eventually got a bit steadier and rambled off into the cover. I just found it very odd to see a badger in this state. I don't think the beast was injured in any way...perhaps he was poisoned?? Just wondering has anyone seen anything like it before???

This often happens to me on the way home from the pub!!!!

All joking aside id say he was poisioned. Was there a road nearby, maybe took a slap off a car?

No expert, but seen a badger like that before in the middle of a country lane. Local farmer said it was on it's way out with TB....
