Looks alright, a quick lick of paint and it'd be a minter!!

Well this is what she needs: (what i've discovered so far..)

brake overhaul (kinda wanna make the car safe to drive:D )
new radiator (it looks ok but you never know, and at €65 for a new one.... who cares)
    new headlights

The engine is a sweet as a nut, starts on the button! Exhaust seems ok....

Body wise, she needs a bit of welding at the back (the little gutter thingy at the side of the roof).
The two rear wings are a bit dodgy but they're dirt cheap so they'll be replaced.

And of course once that's all done, she'll be resprayed.:D:D

Dave it looks well. I have two pretty decent headlights if you want them. I still say metallic blue!

Posted a pic of this [I think exactly this car] in the thread "took a pic of a classic today" or whatever its called. Did it come from the Tipp/Limerick area by any chance?

    Nice one!

One of the few Renaults I'd have, these yokes were a workhorse for many for decades.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,475 ✭✭✭2cv

I know.... they're great little yokes...

It is possibly the most difficult purchase i've ever made, car wise that is... It belonged to a friend of mine that refused to sell it. It took more than 5 years of negotiating to finally get the car :D

Looks fairly solid too, I assume thats filler on the front wing?

There's a fairly comprehensive restoration site that helps with the bodywork side of things, IIRC the guy had one fitted with a 5 Gordini engine, lemme see if I can find the site.

That wasn't too hard to find, I had bookmarked it.

It's comprehensive, but probably not updated much:

I'd say so yeah... But she needs a respray anyway, so i might just look for a good replacement wing

The good news is, you can take the whole car apart with a socket set anyway, so changing panels is très simple.

Ahh the memories! My first car was a Champagne yellow R4 back in 1986, early 70's vintage bought for the princely sum of ir£575 from the local main dealer.

The drivers front wing gave out to tinworm along the top and leading edge and folded back across the drivers door whilst travelling at about 50mph, I can still see the jaw dropping of the driver of the oncoming Hiace van at the time. :D The running repair with 2" sellotape and some old speaker wire that was in the boot at the time lasted two months.

Genuine wings seemed dear at the time so I got some spurious ones but they were a very bad fit. Be sure to try and get genuine panels for yours.

You could throw it into corners and after the initial body roll the suspension would be on the stops and it would corner like it was on rails!

It got a full respray when the wings went on and was quickly sold as the rust was starting to come out through the new paint after only two weeks :o

It only lasted another two weeks before the new lady owner wrote it off.
