Hi Mods please post in appropriate forum if this needs it.

Hey everyone, I've searched here on boards for a thread on removing dirty fingerprints on a car but alas to no avail. I just spent 2 hrs handwashing my car hoping to get them off but again alas, to no avail. The car is covered in them. A citreon xsara red mettallic paint. What do I do? Turtle wax? How do I use turtle wax? I don't know what the marks are grease or otherwise as I bought the car second hand in the rain :D and the guy selling it told me he doesn't know when I rang him up.

Try using a clay bar kit on the car

Happened my brothers car with suncream from the kids. I happenend to have that JML scratch remover stuff in the car (can be got in Heatons around a tenner) doesnt remove scratches but removed mucky prints no probs!

Simple, its a cream and you get a cloth with it. Wax on wax off kinda job. Made the marks pretty much invisible. Tried it on my own which is metallic blue and the brothers is metallic silver. Very noticable difference.

Clay bar is easyish, spray on a lubricant to the surface, then run the clay bar over the area untill it moves freely. Gives a really smooth finish on the paint work as it removes a lot of contaniments from the paint work without removing any of the paint work.

Do the above and then wax afterwards. The difference will be very noticeable. The paintwork will also feel like glass due to be so clean and smooth after it

Sounds like you have an oxidised outer layer. Same happened me. My beautiful little Godson  placed his beautiful little piggies on the nose of my 8er and there was a pretty trace of him there until I got the Mequaires paint cleaner at it. Basically an abrasive. Don't think clay will help you if you have hand grease in oxidised paintwork as I had.

Worth doing in any case. Brings an excellent shine up on the car. Might as well clay it too in advance to remove tar/grime etc.

sound as a bell lads, gonna give the claybar kit a shot and see how I get on over the weekend.

Was just chatting at a car wash place their a few minutes ago. For a 100 euro he said he'll wash the car, get off all the tarmac, apply the claybar kit. Put on two covers of compound, medium and sthg else, cant remember. Polish with the buffer, clean the tyres(blacken them) and then wax it all at the end. Including the rims inside the doors.

Was wondering what to do. He reckons it would take 7 hours or so and the car would be like brand new again. The car is 11 years old but looks well. What ye think? Good idea?

For 100 notes? Sounds too good to be true.

My exact thoughts as well, he says to bring the car down during the week and he will take a small section 2 foot by 2 foot and do it for free, to show me the effect it would have on the car. Then I can go away and think about getting it done.

That's a con man - you'll have a 2x2 section on your bonnet that looks completely out of line with the rest of the car.

I wouldn't be going back to him.

Detailer.ie will possibly do something decent for you for a tonne.

but what if the section is spotless? Would you say it'd be safe to go the whole hog for 100 quid?
