Had them for years, I've managed to overcome it for the most part in the past few years myself, I had been considering seeking help as I ended up in hospital one night following a particularly bad one.

Best of luck, the only advice I can give is, while having an attack, keep reminding yourself that you'll get past it. Also, if you're a smoker, I found cannabis sometimes triggered attacks.

I didn't follow it, but a few Doctors advised me to try Meditation.

My girlfriend does classes here http://www.dublinbuddhistcentre.org/ that might be an option for you.

    Hi :)
I suffered from panic attacks for about 4 years. Mine were linked to post traumatic stress disorder, I went to counselling for 18 months to work through previous issues and problems from my past. My counsellor gave me some fantastic breathing exercises to do when I felt an attack was coming and I haven't had one in about 10 months :) The first time I had one, I had no idea what was happening and thought I was dying! It was such a relief to get some advice and information about what was happening and also what was causing them. I had my last counselling session 7 months ago and haven't been happier, no anxiety, a new life and a new stable relationship! From my experiences and talking to friends with anxiety/panic attacks I think people have them for various reasons and need different coping mechanisms to deal with them. I would recommend doing some thorough research on ways of controlling them... I went to a doctor before I decided to go to a counsellor and frankly he just prescribed me betablockers (which worked for the actual attacks but not the reasons behind them) and sent me on my way. I hope you can find something that helps you out, but I recommend trying to figure out the reasons why you have them and working through that as well :D
    Good luck!

to the poster who said Cannibis can trigger them, thats how mine started.. tried it when I was 15 and had a hell of a night (not in a good way).. didnt know what was wrong with me, but it was a severe anxiety attack... for the next few months, it happened again whenever any of my friends were smoking around me

Very very occasionally I feel one coming on (not been for a while though) and its very random and sudden, but I excuse myself and relax with deep breaths for a couple of seconds and its gone

horrible thing tho, see your GP or use relaxation techniques, anything to concentrate on if you feel it happening. Excessive caffeine is also a no-no (at least in my situation it was)
