It was all the rage for a short spell in the 90's,
Most every town in Ireland has dances.
But then it disappeared without a trace??

I worked in a hotel and people came for entire weekend for line dancing, by Sunday evening they were all coordinated and doing it well.

Anyone here do it and look and cringe :p

Now step away from the keyboard, get a clear space and join me

Humanity's worst form of dancing ...

I went once, in Break for the Border. The instructor was a slightly camp black guy from New York.

There was another instructor who wasn't there that night but who went on to greater things ...

Remember this also. Seemed like everyone was doing it. Can't remember what summer it was exactly, maybe 94, 95? Possibly 96. I could be wrong. Might have been much earlier. We'd all be out on the road playing Tennis (because Wimbledon was on, and it was around that time that we would all take a sudden interest in playing Tennis and stretch some kind of net across the road) but come 6 or so, everyone would head home, and I was like "where are you all going?"

    "Line Dancing."

I remember thinking "yere all a pack of ****ing eijits."

I remember learning line dancing in primary school. My sister had a friend over from the US around that time and she forgot her stetson so I wore it to school, I was the cool kid that day!

Does anyone remember Dustin doing the "anti line dancing campaign?" :D

Haha! I remember this alright and making my Mam promise not to go to classes!

I remember Ray D'arcy and Dustin being anti line dancing for months and then when the Den went off the air, they had a line dancing teacher showing them how to dance. They didn't take part in the end after Dustin said she wasn't worth it. :D

I was the DJ/MC/owner of dance company at BFTB, Langtons, Reardons Mill, River Rooms &Docs Limerick Travellers Friend and beyond. Skip Jennings was the Instructor(ex Marine hardly camp) and Colin Farrell worked for me for 4 mths in addition to very young and good looking young troupe who worked and partied hard. Inspired by a night on the lash with Shay Healy and Bill Hughes in Nashville we got Wrangler and Coors on board and introduced it to Ireland. Caught on Summer 1994 and dead by 1995. Was never to be taken seriously but kept us(or most) out of mischief and we had a ball.
