Focus takes 5 seconds for cold start

Hi, we have recently bought a Ford Focus LX 1.4 (petrol) hatchback with milage of 97K, this is our first ford, which my wife is primary driver.
I have noticed that starting from cold it takes 5 seconds (timed) of turn over before it catches, is this normal for this car, seems to be a bit long!
This time is pretty consistent for cold starts. For a start immediately after running it is a sub 1 second turnover before it catches.
I've checked the battery it reads 12.5v before starting & 12.4v after this cold start (with engine off) battery OK? The starter motor appears to be turning over engine ok.
The starting procedure I use is as below; (per user manual)
turn key to first position wait till sound of petrol? pump stops
    depress clutch, NO accelerator
turn key to start position until engine catches

So do we have a problem, or do others have similar start times for same car?

    Rgs, Joe.

That's not normal. Is it serviced up to date?

The garage we bought it from (not ford dealer) said service was done by them including timing belt just before we bought it in Sept..
Sounds like we need to go back to them on this?

    Joe.

Check the spark plugs as a starting point.
