The battery on the wifes car seems to be on it's last legs. I still need to check that it's not the alternator, but as there are no warning lights I'm assuming it's the battery. It's the original battery and the car has 128,000 miles on it.

So can anyone recommend somewhere in south Dublin? Thanks.

nearly any motor factor shop near you will have a battery for your car.....if its the original battery you normally get good few years out of them you would want to check the charging rate and make sure the altenator is charging the battery you will need a volt meter for this most garages have them so maybe you might be aswell to buy a battery from garage so they can check the system out aswell.most places will not charge you for checking the charging system if you are buying a battery from them.make sure they also check the system for a drain that could be draining your battery i.e something staying on like fan or radio or something like that which will drain your system over nite. also batterys come in different makes and price ranges so up to you what you want to pay.........hopefully its just straight forward battery !

ps just because the battery warning light is not on doesnt necessarily mean the altenator is working properly

Swap it for your battery and see if that makes a difference.
If it does, get a battery at any motor factors. They will take the old battery back for free.

Halfords in Carrickmines should do the job

Any motor factors....looking at about €80.
Dont go to Halfords, you'll get your trousers taken down.

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

Good advice up there. But the battery is 7, nearly 8 years old. At that stage I wouldn't even bother checking anything else (99% chance the battery is the problem), just replace it with a new one from a motors factors. Changing the battery is cheap and it takes only a few minutes.
