Your TV only supports MPEG2 and not MPEG4 (Sound but no picture most of the time means an MPEG2 TV)

The only trick is to buy a compatible set top box or a new TV I'm afraid.

You bought a TV that supports UK Digital not Irish Digital, Tesco are notorious for dumping this crap on us along with Lidl and Aldi, as are Argos too but they dont quibble about returns....Currys at least try harder.

Bring it back, it will never work here...other than as a radio :)

It might not even do that Sponge bob.

UK is obsolete MP2 Audio on Freeview. Our spec has AAC even for regular stereo (more efficient, much lower bitrate at same quality or else higher quality at slightly lower bit rate). RTE NL "happen" to be using MP2 for now, but likely when there is pressure of space they could change to AAC for all the Radio. DAB+ also uses AAC rather than MP2 of regular DAB

Can anyone recommend a Freeview + HDMI box for RTE saorview? I have a Humax + HD satellite decoder for UK channels and I want to avoid paying sky anything. My aim is to be able to record RTE programmes using a Freeview box.

Freeview HD PVR box, not Freeview. OR a Saorview. See here (saorview overview link) and here (link to specification summary and links to RTE detail specs)

    Review here http://www.reghardware.com/2010/10/08/review_dvr_humax_hdr_fox_t2/
DVB-T2 oir DVB-T works on Irish DTT if all other specs are met.
